This of course, only covers the players themselves.
Also, we don't want the cigarette nazis or the stove pipes to get on your arse so in this poll no one will know who voted for or against smoking DURING a tournament match.

Keep the votes coming no matter who you are.
NO ONE can see your polling vote.

thanks.

i have never smoked FWIW, never will.

I suppose the answer is in the middle. If its a race to 11 in the finals then one break for what ever reason should be allowed. What if I have to go pee? Why should I have to ask anyone if I can go relieve myself?, i'm not in kindergarten. If its a short race to 7 and no break is the rule then no break. too many rules for me.

I never played in the finals of anything LOL-but if I did I'd want to be able to take a break. I suppose that's why I don't play in tournaments, i don't answer to anyone and I take breaks when I want, for what ever reason I want. I run my own life, but thats me. not the topic.

back to the topic, if its a long race then a break should be avaliable if the players agree to it, if its a short race then just play it out. so the answere is in the middle.

hope your well JoeyA,

best

what is da rules on taking a time out or break during a match....if a player can go outside and have a dugan in the alloted time.. ok, I just wish it were easier for people to quit them things.

I say NO-SMOKING.............and I've smoked a box car load of um!,

but now am an X-Smoker.......

I didn't like the smoke in poolrooms when I did smoke.......it sure is an eye/breathing irritant for sure, I don't care what you say!

If you do smoke, just go outside and smoke, no-problem!

Let me start by saying that I quit smoking about 8 years ago for my health and am happy that I have. It is bad for ones health. Quitting was one of the hardest things I've ever done. Any one whom has ever smoked can attest to this.

Back when some cities and states started making it illegal to smoke in public places it was said that less than 30% of the population still smoked. I went to a pool room for three nights and ended up asking around 150 people if they smoked or not. According to my simple survey, over 80% of the people frequenting the room smoked. Quite a difference from what the officials stated that normal people do. As every pool player knows, pool is a pressure game. For smokers, the more pressure the more they need a cigarette or some other means to calm the pressure.

Those that don't smoke are lucky as they don't need a cigarette to calm their nerves as smokers do. As far as I'm concerned, not allowing smokers to smoke is probably the biggest shark that can be performed against them akin to someone dropping fire crackers behind them while stroking.

It's funny that non-smokers had no problems for 125 years in going into smoke filled rooms to play but now, suddenly it is atrocious to even think such a crude thing should be allowed.

In Cincinnati in 1997 there were over 20 pool rooms, today there are 3. You can say that there probably could be other causes for that, which probably is partially true, BUT, across the Ohio river in KY where there are no smoking laws, new rooms have opened and are thriving do to the influx of Ohio players

I didn't mean for this poll to be a convincing pulpit but it seems that people are weighing in so I may as well throw my $.02 in as well.

It seems to me that a smoker should be able to smoke before and after a match to satisfy their nicotine fix. I understand the need for the fix, having been a smoker for many years and am sympathetic to their needs. That's why I am not lobbying for a complete ban on smoking at pool tournaments where law allows the smoking to already occur.

DURING THE MATCH, is it really fair to the non-smoking players to have to endure the eye irritations and the sharking motion distractions caused by the smoking players?

And as I'm sitting here writing this response, I'm just wondering what the hell the smokers are doing that are playing in non-smoking events??????

Have they quit playing in pool events because the law doesn't allow smoking?

Or have they opted for the nicotine patches and nicotine gum and other "fixes" to get them over the hump or better yet, quit?

I've heard of some of the best players in the world that are still smokers and still playing really well......

Anyway, I'm sympathetic to their need to get a fix, I just don't want their smoking during a match to interfere with my attempt to play a decent game of pool.

Not sure which to vote for. If the ventilation is poor, and the smoke is going across the table, then no. But, if there's proper ventilation, and the smoke doesn't go across the table, then yes.

Ventilation is key. Great point Neil.

I have smoked for over 50 years. Most of my friends have smoked for about this length of time. What do I do when smoking is not allowed? I don’t go there, simple as that. I seldom eat out because restaurants are uncomfortable. I do not go to pool rooms where I cannot smoke. If I do go to one now and again, I do not stay long. No point in going where I am not wanted. When new acquaintances complain about smoking I avoid them in the future.

Smoking is not allowed in our on site pool room and I usually play in the evenings and smoke just outside the door when I want to. Some of the players have asked why I no longer play in the daily tournaments and I just make some lame excuse. Actually, I do not like being around anti-smoking zelots.
