White Diamonds in Lafayette, Louisiana has to be the best weekend tournament in the WORLD.

I couldn't get a sniff at the money. I had locals like Jimmy Majors giving me a severe spanking and sending me home along with other notables but I still had a GREAT TIME.

If you know of a weekend pool tournament that is close to this one, please let me know.

It was brutal this weekend. We finished our LAST winner's side match at around 5:00 am and lost. On Sunday morning I lost to Jimmy Majors 7-3 or 7-4, I forget which. We played at 11:00 am so it wasnt so bad for us but others played until similar hours and had to be back at 8:00 am. Don't get stuck on the one loss side. :D

Wow thats a bunch of lettuce. Where I live no one has tables so no tourneys. Thanks for the update I was hoping to tune in but spent the day on the road.

The Japan Open is a weekend tournament that gets 400-500 of the top players in the world. Both the Philipino and Taiwanese camps make a strong showing every year. Race to 7 ten ball in the double elimination bracket, then race to 8 for the final 128 single elimination bracket. Usually ends early in the evening on Sunday. No calcutta, but first place gets 1,500,000 yen (roughly $20,000).

Actually, all of the big open tournaments in Japan are held over the weekend because Japanese are usually pressured not to take vacation days at big companies, thus a week-long event wouldn't get many entrants.

great weekend of streaming

Awsome tournament !! What I like the most is it is not who you I thought in the begining that ended up in the final four .I gotta go to one of these ,looks like a heck of a good time.Joey , did you get me a shirt from Chris ?

What place did you get Joey and do you know how Robley did in the event?

I would like to take down a car load of Indy guys this fall.

That has to be one heck of a tournament. I bet that is one of the toughest tournaments to win. Is it on bar table or 9 foot tables?
In my opinion, because of the sheer numbers of participants, this event ranks up there with the White Diamonds weekend tournament as the BEST WEEKEND tournament of the world.

No I wasn't able to get a collared shirt Matt. They were selling T shirts but no collared shirts and Chris and I were both so busy, I didn't get a chance to ask him about the collared shirts. I'll talk to him after he has a chance to rest up.

I'm not sure. I think I saw Robley playing on Sunday but don't know the outcome of his match.

Bring an 18 wheeler load of guys down for this event. It is a lot of fun. Just make sure you don't go into the single elimination bracket. Joe Jr. and my buddy Paul went over on the other side and had to play on Sunday at 8:00 am without any sleep. Ok, maybe 30 minutes of cat napping in the car. :D

All 9 foot tables. The first day is played at various pool halls in and around Tokyo and on Sunday the final 32 play at a large convention center with stadium seating for about 300 paid spectators and standing room for the players.

Its quite a fun tournament, especially on the first day because there are big name players at every venue and at around the final 64, pretty much everyone is a recognizable name.

Did I mention that the Women's Japan Open runs simultaneously?

WOW! A genuine CITY WIDE tournament. I like it. It makes sense for a large city where multiple pool rooms can have their tournament on Saturday and then send their champions on the Sunday Finale. (No one loses their customers to another pool room) I don't know much about the women's Japan Open but that's impressive that it is run simulataneously.

Yea I have to agree.....has to be the best Bar Box weekend tournament in the U.S. I had a blast as usual, and played better than expected. It was also nice to see everyone on AZ ad get a chance to play some of the great ones like Cliff and Lil Hand.

I was in attendance thru out the weekend cept sunday. Played the mini tourney friday which didnt go over well. But i am just getting back into the game. Walked in a few times saturday.
