I don't see why everyone's so socked that Shanelle couldn't play. Just because Charlie calls her Professional Pool Player does it mean she plays pro level? Just like when Charlie calls his every other tournament World Championship, is it real World Title?

It was entertaining to some audience. That's that.

I agree 1,000%.
I just don't see why anyone else would ever entertain or encourage Charlie. I mean, she's not new to the pool scene. We all know Shanelle is a D player. I just can't figure out why people don't tell that to Charlie when he says "What do you think about a stream of Shanelle? Great idea, right?"

Instead Everyone seems to jump on board.
 
Can you believe how much Charlie berated her game in his commentary?

Those ladies should have been playing on a much easier/less embarrassing table IMO.
 
I have only seen a very few limited matches with either Shanelle or Borana (on video). I can definitely say that they both played below their capabilities in this match; they have both had better days, and I have no doubt it would have been a different match on another day.

While it didn't end-up being a match of skill at witt, unfortunately they both got frazzled, the match was definitely one of perserverence. They both hung in there as best they could. Borana was able to get her head together and into the game before Shanelle could. Shanelle could have easily resigned herself to defeat, but she still tried to hold it together to the end. I applaud them both for that.

As for some of the crass and superficial comments in this thread about the ladies, I'm a bit disappointed by it. I'm not trying to be the warden of "correctness" here and if it's within the forum rules you have the right to post what you want. But I'd just like to see more women in the sport, but it's tough when they face the onslaught of frat-boy attitudes in the hall, and that behavior is being demonstrated here to a lesser degree. I know it's all intended as good fun but some of the comments just seem over the top to me... And I'm a red-blooded male horn-dog.
 
Holy Smokes!!!! Anna Kournikova was the World Junior's Singles Champion and was ranked the #1 Female Doubles Player in the World. #1 mean she was picking up the slack, not vice versa.

And yes, she had great partners. But, how does climbing to the #1 ranking in the world get so diminished?

The biggest reason she didn't win a WTA singles title was her looks. They took away from her training. She had the game to win many singles titles, but she grew up (in more way than one) against some serious talent and her modeling career took much of her time. In it all, she still climbed to #1 in Doubles.
I understand she had great doubles success but as a singles player she was average at best.Not debating that she made lots of money or had talent but never winning a singles event would lead me to believe as a singles player she was not a top tier singles player.As a doubles player her success was evident.As far as Shanelle,if she brought her game up
to the point that people would watch her for her talent and not her looks then challenge matches like that would be taken more serious instead of marketing the sex side and forgetting about the sport.
 
Much admiration and respect sent to both players for getting out there and playing this very public match. I only saw the first three games (busy- had to run), and I've never met either player- but I was totally struck by how plainly, naturally human they both were.

Women are much more leery of doing public things like this than men are- you make yourself vulnerable to all of the comments, unsolicited advice, slapstick, jeering, leering- and that's only the male audience! Add on the whole "I could play better" mentality that all of us poolplayers feel while sitting in front of a computer, and it has to be hard.

Yes, they walked into the match knowing exactly what they were in for. In which case: Major props for getting out there and getting that thrill and that seasoning, for all of the risks and rewards.

May both players persist in pool, and may they both be stronger, smarter, and hungrier for the experience of having played this.

I had heard people say before that Shanelle was a D player but even knowing that, I was genuinely surprised at how badly she played in this match.

Even if she had picked up a pool cue only the first time I heard of her a few years ago, she should be far better than she was in this match. Far better. Especially with her private tutoring from professional player(s)!

To call her a professional player is an insult to amateur and professional female players alike. Obviously there are many women on this forum and among the general pool playing public who could beat her easily and don't call themselves professional pool players.

The 9-3 scoreline is quite flattering. Borana hung a 9-ball one game, right over the pocket. Another game, Shanelle hit two shots so badly that they fluked into the wrong pockets. It was really something...

Borana played much better than Shanelle. But someone posted on here that Borana has a high break+run of 4 racks of 10 ball I believe. If that was really claimed, I don't believe it. Not even close or "on a good day".

I posted that, but only because I remember seeing it on another thread back when Borana played OMGWTF.

That said, after seeing the video, I certainly would gamble with her and I have never run a 4 pack in 10 ball.

fyi it was completely promotional and i think it did that very well imo.

It's so reassuring that there are sooooo many great players here on AZB, that they feel entitled to tear others down.

If you were expecting high-level pool, why the hell did you watch? So you could come on here and berate these ladies, and make yourselves feel so superior?

They gave it their best, televised (OK, streamed) and under the lights, in front of everyone. It was an exhibition match, not described as the second coming of Earl/Efren.

Get over yourselves. And let us all know when you're ready to challenge SVB, mmm-kay?

Yes, you are right about that. As for this event itself, Accu-stats did a fabulous production and very well done.

My reaction was indeed based on the fact that she has been referred to as professional elsewhere. Not on your flyer ;)

Its not always easy to get on a livestream and play well. These ladies have my respect for putting themselves out there

Thank you Borana and Shanelle for getting in the box and battling. What with interviews, cameras, and challenge matches you played some pretty good pool (on a tough table under tougher conditions!). You are both wonderful ambassadors for pool and I appreciate your hard work and efforts.
