I know this has been discussed before but I really haven't gotten a feel for the best method. Do most experienced cue repairmen cut the ferrule off or remove it with heat by spinning the lathe clockwise and using leather?
I have always carefully chucked up the shaft to get it centered and cut the ferrule off. I then use a dental pick or razor knife to remove the ferrule material from the threads in the tenon.
My problem is that this pretty time consuming. I haven't used the other method for fear of damaging the tenon.
