Amsterdam Pool

My brother and I will be visiting Amsterdam at the end of this month for Koningsdag (Queens Day).

We would like to find a pool hall in the area that we can spend some time at.

Does anyone know whether there is a pool scene in Amsterdam?

If so; would it be straight pool?

I probably hit every bar and only saw a couple of tables. Weird tables too, with little pockets and balls. And the locals arent that into it either. I would leave my cue at home, indulge in other things. (Could also be that I just didnt look hard enough.)

Yes, we are going to visit Museums, Tulips and enjoy the architecture.

Certainly not for Hash, Heinekens and Hookers as that is deplorable and should not be enjoyed by anyone.... especially pool players.

Might be interesting to watch people try to play while stoned.

I lived in the Netherlands for a while. Amsterdam is cool, but if you get a chance to see anything outside there, take it.

The shame is when people think the Netherlands is just Amsterdam.

I did play pool there but it's been like 13 years so I couldn't tell you where to try.

Actually this will be my 6th visit.

I have had the opportunity to visit Den Haag, Zandoort, Maastricht, Amstelveen and Alkmaar.

We will sometimes stay in Alkmaar instead of Amsterdam.

This year though we are specifically going for Queensday so I dont know if we will do much traveling.

In the past; I have never been interested enough in pool to take time away from my vacation...but I think I will give it a try on this visit.

I saw the poster of the 8 ball open tournament and it is kind of sad seeing pool associated with weed. I have nothing against weed and in holland is legal afaik but this doesn't help pool's image.

I hear The Dopen is great fun, and I'll be entering the next one if I can.

As far as where to play, plenty of bars have tables but the only one in centruum that's worth visiting is Cafe T'Nes, which has a well maintained Brunswick and a pool-mad clientèle. Check out the website, along with poolcam, if you can stand it. http://www.nes-cafe.nl/home.shtml

It's on Nes, just by the Monument in Dam square.

Straight pool on Queen's Day? ;)

Club 8 at Admiraal de Ruyterweg
Plan B at Overtoom
Nescafe supposedly cool place

now hotspot in Dutch pool is city of Rotterdam (40km)
poolcafe Blaak
poolcafe Delfshaven
Thurston pool and snooker

many players and most decent players in Holland will give anyone a (cheap) game in 14.1

It is just one event, there are also serious tournaments there.

Participants choose to play...nice to have choices. Especially whan one of the choices is sticy-icky.
