Hi,

Here is a cue entitled, “The Civil War”. It is nearly ready to be taken to Ken’s art studio where it will receive cameo art images of The Civil War rendered on the butt plate and handle and forearm.

The points on this cue are unusuall as it has two with blue and yellow and two with gray and yellow to depict the uniform colors of the North and the South. The cue is sealed in shellack , ready for sanding, pin install and epoxy substrate before starting the artwork application next week.

Ken’s wife is a real Civil War historian and she has been consulting Ken for his inspiration. As always I explain to Ken what I would like to see on a particular cue and then ask him to ignore me and do what he want’s to do as I don’t wish to see it until it’s done. Kinda like not wanting to know the sex of the baby after an ultrasound. Man, I live for this shit!!

Anyway, I am very excited about this cue and can’t wait to see it done. Ken is finishing up the “Old West Cue” at this time. I stained the entire butt and the shaft on that cue to look like it is 150 years old. The curly butt sleeve on "Civil War" will also have that antique detail while the handle will be colorful.

I am currently building three more art cues:

“Voyages of Columbus”
“Nicola Tesla - Prodigal Genius”
“Leonardo - The Renaissance Man”

Thanks for looking,

Rick G

Here you see very simple rings and a Hoppe cap ring as minimalist ornate features on the cue so as not to distract from the elaborate and detailed Civil War Art renderings that will be displayed

I'm normally not big on "theme" cues....but I really dig the incorporation of the blue and gray in the veneers. Very nice work, and a handsome cue. I will be looking forward to seeing the completed work.

Thanks Doc,

About 3 weeks and I will have it back with the art and I will post it.

I am going to Kenny's cue show in June and will have 5 Art Cue there, this is the last one before Ken's May 20th deadline.

There are certainly countless ways to display your interpretation and creativity on any subject, but I would recommend that you locate the owner of the current North/South set of Civil War cues and make sure that your ideas do not come off as following their mold.

I am not saying they will, but I believe checking first could only improve the originality of your creation.

Hi,

I did not know that these cues existed but I doubt they will resemble this cue's art rendering. Never the less your bring a very good point up.

I checked google and found no Civil War Cue search engine results,

Do you know who made these cues or if they are viewable some where. I would not want to have any conflict with the other artist.

Thank you so much for bring this to our attention.

They were at the ICCS show in St Louis this year. Will Prout will likely know the owner. I may have a photo or two but not much.

Rick,

Keith Walton of Chicago is a collector who has commissioned a number of military-themed cues. I don't recall if any of them were Civil-war themed or not, though. He's almost local to you -give him a call. I bet he'd know!

I wouldn't sweat it; I'm sure yours is unique.

Thanks Beau,

I have some close friends that play BCA with Keith but I have never had the pleasure of meeting him.

I reach out to talk to him.

To save you some searching. I know that the points were actually floating inlay representations of civil war muskets. The butt of the cue had scrimshaw of generals from each army. I thought they were two of the most unique theme cues I had ever seen. They were definitely not overdone and the unique point idea was an attention-getter.

I do have two photos but they are only of the points which we already see will in no way match what you have shown.

I really look forward to seeing your finished product.

The Art Work for this cue by Ken is unreal. I saw the rendering yesterday and was blown away.

HE'S GOT ONE FOR EACH MILITARY CONFLICT, AND ONE FOR EACH BRANCH OF THE SERVICE. I KNOW THERE ARE OTHERS IN THE WORKS AS WELL.
