Opinions on Joss cues?

Do you like Joss pool cues? Dislike them? Had any experience with them?

Also, any opinions on the differences in the taper of a shaft? 9-10" taper vs. 14-16" taper?

I always liked my Joss cues for straight pool.

For 9 ball I used a Meucci so I could get more stuff or spin on the cue ball.

The Joss always had a nice solid hit and good follow when you shoot

high on the cue ball.:smile:

I do like a longer shaft taper, but the Joss was fine.

Anyway, I dig JOSS. I have four. One a seventies cue, one early nineties jump cue, and two from early/mid 2000's. The oldest one I have had since 1985.

Excellent cues IMHO. Stiff hit, solidly built, well finished cues by a Hall Of Fame cue maker. They have evolved slowly over decades and are of very modern construction. They are all fully cored yet retain the traditional steel joint. IMHO JOSS has been a quiet leader in cue technology, no flashy marketing or grandiose claims. They went to CNC early in the eighties, began coring all their cues in the early nineties, and several years ago were making laminated shafts (not any more). They recently introduced a new shaft and a new break cue that uses a proprietary tip.

They make plenty of catalog cues and will still custom make a cue for you, with sharp points.

Even for those who do not favor JOSS they will likely agree it is hard to go wrong with a JOSS.

Love the Dan Janes wesite, these are classic looking but a bit more$$.

Mezz is another option. Hope this helps.

Love them all. Very consistent, well built. I've got 14 shafts all different but all interchange with ease.
 
I bought one brand new and in 3 months the butt warped by 1/2". I sent it to Joss. They said it could not be fixed, but offered to build a new butt for $195.00 I asked about warranty and Danny James himself told me "You chalk it, it's out of warranty."
I told him I would badmouth his cues and I still live up to my promise.

I play with a Boar but my Joss is my old faithful. I have had 3 with zero problems. I gave one to a friend the other ended up with water damage. The last one I still have and I really like it. I have had it for 8 years now. Nice solid hit with a neutral balance. You can't go wrong with Joss.
 
Great production cue...prob the best next to a schon...a matter of taste but at the top of the production list

early 2000
2006
since then have bought "custom cues"
they are great palyers
very reliable
and great bang for the buck
would recommend them without reservation

I've never shot with a "custom" cue. started with a Hoppe, bought a Helmsetter, then a Viking, then a Palmer, then a Perchauer, then a Joss.

All production cues.

The Pechauer and Joss are keepers, the rest are sold or for sale, except for the Hoppe for sentimental reasons:grin:

I am sorry to hear that you were not the original buyer of that cue, so you were not subject to their warranty program...

And I am sorry that there are cue makers that can't build a butt that won't warp:angry:
WTF? It seems to me that it used to be that the butt was no problem, only the shafts? Now, with "new technology" the butts warp:angry:

this is bullshit
