Jerry Briesath’s Instructional DVD’s

Congrats to Jerry on the new DVDs. I had a chance to watch the first one so far, and I think it's very well done and Jerry really comes through the same way he does in person.

My first official lesson was with Jerry in Madison, WI at his room. He and I had talked a bit and I decided to see if he could help with some of my questions. He spent more time with me than he needed to and bought me supper as well, and 2 - 3 weeks later I was playing the best I ever had. I wish I could have spent more time with him, unfortunately I was done with the client I was at and moved on to another, started traveling full time and shortly after ended up quitting pool for 6 - 7 years because of my schedule. I'm back at it now and wish I could spend some more time with Jerry...

I have great memories of being at his room and spending time with him as well as playing leagues and tournaments there, so glad he decided to share his teaching style and knowledge with those you aren't able to get a lesson with him in person.

I started playing at age 12 I was a natural, without any guidance. If I would have had Jerry's instructions on these DVD's I just can't imagine how much stronger of a player I could have become.
I totally agree, Jerry is the same in person as he is on his DVD's. I totally understand each topic...I too am on the first one, they are excellent for my teaching skills.

I asked Jerry if I could market his DVD's (I'm no dummy) and he said YES!
He knows I love to grind :)

Personally I hope to dissect the 3 DVD's for myself, if I could learn how to teach like Jerry in my lifetime I would LOVE it!!!

If your interested PM me, I've been selling them and getting close for another 100!!! http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=270300

I love when I see a great product and it's also great for everyone else!!!
I can't believe I was just walking around the Expo looking for one more product to carry...and Jerry was walking by, I said "Hi Jerry" he backed up and we just chatted away. He gave me a copy...but it wasn't until I left that I thought "Duh" this is it!!!
I'm way to old to have products that are heavy ;)

One more time! :)

I posted this review a few days ago in a different section of the forum, but I feel it is worth copying and pasting into here. So here it is:

My review of the DVD set...

I own a number of instructional DVDs. I can't find an instructor that lives within 50 miles of me so I have resorted to books and dvds. As such, I have wasted hundreds of hours reading books that didn't really live up to the expectations or hype, and videos that have also not lived up to the reviews.

This review is not to tear down the books and DVDs that I have not found useful. The only DVD set I found useful prior to Jerry's was "Mike Sigel's Perfect Pool." That set did a very good job of explaining the fundamentals. But since the master is not really an instructor, and the guy helping the video move along is better known as a pitch man...the dvd video is not perfect. However, I will say it's a worthwhile purchase.

I will preface this by saying the best book on fundamentals is by far Lee Brett's book. And I have read nearly 50 books. All the classics. Lee's is great. I am awaiting his video so I cannot pass any judgement on it. That being said...

if you really want to get the most you can out of one set...save all your money, leave the time tested books behind, forget about all the pros that have lent their names to instructional sets. This DVD set by far the best set I have ever encountered. I expected so much of this set do to the banter on this site that I kind of expected to be let down. ..I was surprised that it surpassed even my most optimistic expectations.

It seems that many, many people equate great talent at any given task with the talent to also pass this gift on to others. This is rarely the case. Eddie Van Halen might be great, but he might not be the best guitar instructor. Mike Sigel may be great...but having the gift to convey this wisdom to others is not his strongest attribute.

In most cases, the best teachers for any subject are generally teachers by profession, and exceptional at what they teach.

This is definitely the case with Jerry's DVD set. I have never seen him in a tournament against Appleton or Reyes. I don't have any of his books. He reminds me of my grandfather. However, he is to pool instruction what Reyes is to playing the game.

Jerry has found a way to deliver deceptively complicated principals and fundamentals in a manner that is so well done you're not even aware of the knowledge being imparted to you. Moreover, the delivery is exceedingly accessible and applicable. To watch him, he is a humble man with a near permanent smile and a visibly sincere joy and love for showing people how to play the game.

I learned more from 5 hours with this set than with probably over 1000 hours of a few professional lessons, books, and dvds combined. I actually plan to go back and watch it with a notebook.

Prior to watching and absorbing the wisdom contained in this set I was happy to have a 6 ball run in 8-ball. I'm just a banger by all means. I ran a rack in 8 ball once in my life. ...After seeing this video I ran a rack of 8 ball twice in the same night. Now...to all you players out there that can do this with ease....cut me some slack. I enjoy the game, but I could never get past the plateau I was on.

Jerry's video explained to me three things that immediately changed my game and how I play it. I finally got a total understanding of the "correct" stroke. I know those of you that can do this, or are in a circle with people that know how to do this, think nothing of it. But in my circle, it was great to learn. I also learned about "tangents" wich improved my cue ball control from "lucky leave" to "wow!" Lastly, I learned a lot about physics.

So there you have it. I would purchase this DVD set if it were 200.00 easy. I spent more than that on lessons and got nowhere near as much out of it as I did from this DVD set.

Jerry should be commended for this undertaking. When I read all the hullaballoo about this dvd being a classic and a bookmark in Jerry's legacy I thought to myself, "that pretty creative marketing." Now, having watched and learned, I couldnt agree more. This set belongs up there at the highest echelon of pool instruction. In fact, I would say this is the best. A set like this is many years overdue.

Congratulations. My most sincere thanks for this set. Where was it 20 years ago?

So there you have it. Abandon any reservations you may have had concerning this set. if you're on the fence about it, jump off. if you didn't even consider buying it...you better.

I sure hope I do Jerry justice...going to the APA Singles in the morning. Hope to sell lots of them there.

Well said, Scott. I'm sure Jerry appreciates hearing this from a fellow superstar of the pool instruction profession.

Jerry, who is a close friend of mine, was kind enough to have a look at my stroke during this year's Derby City Classic. What I remember most is that he told me my backswing was a little too short. Forty three years of playing pool, much of it against professionals, and nobody ever mentioned it to me. You top instructors are worth your weight in gold.

I purchased Jerry's DVD and I'm still watching it. I like what I see so far. To anyone who hasn't bought it yet, now is the time!

Back from Vegas...sold lots!!! YAY.
About Jerry's DVD's a few of my customers came by with their review. 3 to be exact...it was kinda weird but very cool... each review was almost word for word. First they said their was only one problem with Jerry's DVD's (I was all ears) Then each one said "He should have doubled the price". How cool is that!!! I'm still on the first one...but its great to know I'm on the right page. :)
Bummer they are still not on my website to order...have to do it the old fashion way.... Paypal personal email...HUSBANDS!!! What can I say tech-no nerd I am. robindodson@ix.netcom.com if anyone wants one. $59.95 I'll take care of the shipping for USA orders.

Robin,

Thank you for taking the ball and running with this!
It's great to know that Jerry's instruction is being made available for all those who haven't had the opportunity to take private lessons.

For those who aren't familiar with Jerry, he is without a doubt one of the best billiards instructors ever. I believe his private rate for 1 hour is more than the cost of this 3 DVD set. This is a steal at $50!

Also, thank you for the quick shipment on my order. I received it within a week of sending off my paypal payment.

Would it be possible to put together a couple of 30 second clips on a few of the topics discussed and post them on your site or YouTube as sample content?
