Anybody try a Chinese cue from MT Billiards eBay wengzhende2009

It started out as a Zerba Wood joke, but I checked out the sellers positive and negative feedback. EBay user name is wengzhende2009.
Seller has very few negative feedbacks associated with the quality of the cues.
Out of 600 plus cues sold I saw one warped shaft, one warped butt and one joint not as pictured.
I then looked through the positive feedback left for this seller and most customers praised the cues they recieved. Many repeat customers too.
I know many of them most likely don't know a lot about cues and the feel of a top quality custom cue, but I was fairly impressed with the very favorable comments left by customers.
It's hard to believe they are garbage cues with all the positive things that were said about them.
Remember we are talking about $50 to $100 cues here.

I'm looking to hear from some players that were daring enough to purchase and play with a cue from MT Billiards aka wengzhende2009

chinese cues

yes i saw the ebay add and the add for african cocobolo cue . lol
i figure until they figure out cocobolo dosent come from africa . iBut i did end up with 4 American made cues today

I actually picked one up for $69 for a goof... just to see how they were. It came with 2 shafts and seems to be made decently. Not great, but decently :-D It rolls straight with both shafts and the linen(?) wrap is pretty good. The finish leaves a bit to be desired and wasn't as smooth as I would like, but honestly I think they make a good starter cue. The hit is pretty soft with a phenolic collar over wood for both the shaft and cue. I think its a 3/8 11 pin. Hope this helps!
 
Never tried one from that seller but such imports have been around a long time. Low price range, sort of decent cues. It surprises me that people are still surprised by them.

For every purchase like this from an ebay seller, or AZ, there's at least ten who don't know any better and end up buying a Walmart or Sports Authority import cue with a ramin wood shaft for the same price or more. Buying directly cuts out the middleman and gives you more selection.

I'm not ashamed to say I bought the light color Zebra wood cue with the one shaft and only 19 oz. available. It cost me just under 50 bucks in an auction and that included shipping.

The weight came in at 18.85. It hit very nice, a touch on the soft feel side although the tip was not a real soft tip.

Quality is very much acceptable for the price range. The linen wrap could have been pressed a bit more I suppose.

I liked it. I tapered the shaft down to a 20 inch pro taper. I'm going to buy another one for an extra shaft. :smile:

Listen, there are folks who are into collecting cues. That's a wonderful hobby that I clearly separate from the hobby of playing pool.

I've been playing for many years, never once had an inkling to buy expensive or collector cues. I've shot for many years with some old meucci cues I have.

This looked plain and simple and arose my curiosity. Not bad at all.

This cue ran 53 balls the other day. Not bad. :) Point being. It will serve well as a playing cue.

Note .... I did notice a bit too much squirt compared to my meucci until I narrowed the tip to 12.75 or so and lengthened the taper out 20 inches.

After that.... it was fine.

You purchased one of the Southwest style cues with two shafts from your description. Those cues appeared to have a matte finish in the eBay photos.
Is that what you didn't like about the finish or were their other issues?
Did you get the Cocobolo or the Zerba/Zebra Wood cue?
Are the shafts of decent quality wood. Hard Rock Maple with straight and tight grain (close together grain rings indicating slow growth)?
 
I've actually had several of those cues in my hands (if you search his eBay feedback, you'll probably see my comments for him). I have to say that I wasn't "unimpressed" at all with the construction or the playability of the cues. Personally, I think those cues give you a tremendous amount of "bang" for your buck!

I purchased them for local league players who didn't have an eBay account...and of course I got to shoot with them! ;)
 
I bought two cues from him. The SW style cue with the screw joint and two shafts was really well made for the money. The shafts needed some smoothing as they were a bit wavey but over all pretty good bang for the buck. I sent it to my wife's uncle in the outback Australia and I think he and his buddies believe he has a custom made cue from America. All I told him is I was sending him a cue of mine. Then I bought a quick release joint with a leather wrap from him and it's a real POS. The butt is warped big time and the finish is crappy. But he threw in a break/jump cue and a case with the deal that were pretty good quality for a freebie so I didn't ***** to him. I gave them all away to local up and comers. The SW style was way better.

The shafts on the SW style I got were not particularly tight grained but they were straight. I've seen better and I've seem much worse. I had in mind to give the cue away the entire time or I probably wouldn't have bought it. I hate a linen wrap. But actually the cue was nice enough I considered having a leather wrap put on it and keeping it. As if I need another cue.:smile:

Hey Bill sorry I was away from azb for a few days :smile: The cue I bought was this cue http://www.ebay.com/itm/ROSEWOOD-Bu...ltDomain_0&hash=item27ba68809f#ht_7975wt_1163 except mine was ebony.
The shafts were both pretty wide grain, but better than I've seen out of Wal Mart :thumbup: The finish was ok except for one spot where it sank into what appears be be knot in the wood, and in some spots you can almost feel the grain of the wood through the finish; as if the finish wasn't applied thick enough. Come to think of it, the cue is probably just a dark rosewood and not ebony lol.
 
Bought 1 for 100.00. It's a 4 point real ebony inlay. I know this because I replaced the wrap with elephant embossed leather. The inlay was so deep I wasn't sure it wasn't a splice cue. 1 shaft, short low deflection ferrule as they described it, and a layered tip. Had it about a year. Other than the rings not being flush with the finish, I thought it played fine. The finish was good quality. Straight. Real ebony buttsleeve. Shaft plays much better than similar priced cues. Remember, most anything in that price range, regardless of manufacturer is made in China or Asia.
