Has Archer changed anyones mind?

Between the TAR podcasts and TAR 26 I think that JA has changed some minds around here. Some had him written off as a player and alot of people didn't give him a chance to beat SVB in TAR 26. I have seen him get bashed on here a number of time for on thing or another and I think he had a chance to explain a few things and admit where he thinks he has made mistakes. He was humble and a great sport during this weekends match and showed class when he won and when he lost. I think that says alot about a person.
So I was wondering if he has changed anyone mind about him over the past week.

I think most people understand what JA is capable of. Some of the "newbies" or at least those that recently entered the sport are somewhat swept away by the SVB bug that's been going around for the past few years. Growing up with pool over the last 20 years I can assure you that I never doubted JA's capabilities and always held him as the cream of the crop when it comes to Americans.

Shane was a slight favorite in the match for one reason only in my opinion. He has put himself under the gun a ton more that Johnny has over the last 5 years or so. Even though this wasn't a gambling format, I'm sure the pressure was comparable. JA is well seasoned in this area even though it's been quite sometime since he's gotten in the grease. I guess it's just like riding a bike :thumbup:

Good shooting to JA and glad to see him get the recognition he deserves.

Nope, rock steady. I remember Buddy Hall and I talkin' about him at an Ohio tournament in 1990, his words, JA was the best nine ball player he's ever seen.

He is a class act and an extremely talented pool player

It was a pleasure to watch the match, good decent guys

The other guys can learn a whole lot more than how to break or run a pattern from those two
 
I would never underestimate Johnny Archer. I still watch tapes of him playing and jumping balls with the full length pool cue...his playing cue.
 
i wasn't surprised he played well. you don't win all that he has won and not be able to compete. i was surprised he won only because shane has that break that is just tough to fade and and has been in a high gear for so long.
what did surprise me was johnny on the pod cast and during the match. here is a guy who doesn't have to apologize to anyone for anything. he could easliy be a cocky s.o.b. and just tell people to deal. but in the interview he acknowleged some of the things he takes heat for and owned them. and during the match he kept saying sorry - to shane to the crowd - for things like blowing the hair off the cue ball, being nervous when he was getting close, things like that. he knows he takes a beating for things like the lint picking and the constant moving balls from pocket to pocket. but he really did own it and try to change it up. it was very nice to see a guy make an effort to answer the cat calls of "fans" who love to bash the pros.
good for johnny. it was a great win against a quality guy. shane showed a rough edge but let's face it, is there any question that shane is also a class guy who tries his best to do right. over all it was just nice to watch them both play and play as hard as they could.

He was very cool and imho his pace was not slow at all and I know he once WAS. Good for him that he could change that.
 
Everyone thought I was trying to steal in the action report a few days before the match started, cause I was asking for SVB and five games on the wire each night for $25. I would have won 25 bucks total and it sure was closer than that, and I was pulling for Shane to win, but my brain said Archer had the advantage.--Leonard
 
Nothing new here,when you call JA out to play for the cheese you have got to buckle up for the ride.

I really admire both players on a whole, but I gotta admit to really wanting Johnny to win...Shane needed a break from the Throne :smile:

I put a thread up on here at the end of the podcast that he has my respect back after what he said was done wrong with the ABP and why he/they couldn't find another way and other things he cleared up. Of course the thread got comments like, "Like he'll sleep tonight now that you have respect for him again." I never lost respect for his game...in fact I bet on him. Johnnyt

Archer played so good that last set, it was scary. That was some awesome pool by both players. I would love to know what Johnny's accu-stats score was that last set!! Had to be over .930 I would think.....

Never a doubt or surprise among the knowledgeable fans or pros. Archer is far from retirement
 
He hasn't changed my mind one bit.
I've always considered him to be one of the best in the world and nothing is going to change my mind on that.
 
Ja is a great play and very smart ,wacth the podcast and see what he does when svb was breaking , And see what he did after shane broke...
He learned to adjust to break some what in the same spot like shane...
It's on tape.....
 
I've always thought Johnny Archer was neck and neck with Earl and Buddy for the best Americans ever. The way he's playing recently might put him ahead in my book now. He's so humble and just seems like a genuinely nice guy it's hard to root against him. I really like Shane too but I was definitely pulling for Johnny. This last Mosconi Cup was the first I've got to see and I thought he was the leader and the way he communicated with the rest of the team was really impressive. The podcasts were great too. He's a very entertaining guy. The part about how he aims and sets up for shots has really helped me too. I aim at a contact point myself and seeing how he does it was awesome. Overall I'm a big fan of Archers and if anything I like him even more recently. If he keeps his break going like he did in this last match Busty is in for a fight.
