That is a BS reason to expect people to support Bonus Ball. People support TAR for the most part because they want to watch the pool that TAR puts out there. They do not support TAR because it is supporting and paying the players, they are paying for TAR because they see entertainment value in the product.

If you guys cannot say "the reason people should support Bonus Ball is because it is super entertaining and you will all see a great value in the time and money you put into it" then you are screwed.

We should support it because it pays pool players money? That is the main reason you think people should support Bonus Ball? Seriously?
 
Exactly. I've had to eat beans and toast and macaroni for days on end. I could care less whether any of the players have to do the same.

Time permitting, I pay and watch TAR productions for the quality.
Plus, I know how much Justin has put into pool and it feels good to send a little his way when I can. You're guaranteed to get value for your money.

This game has had some great matches, with some amazing shot making and the players love the game, the studio is the best ive ever seen and the camera work is top notch, just wait for the promo by runoutmedia, it will be like nothing you ever seen before.

Gonna wait for the knockers, well know who will reply with his 2 cents already but won't name names, got nothing good to say then don't say it.

The league will be starting the first week in November so lets get behind it, great job by everyone this week, we all worked together and are looking forward to the 6 month season.

I encouraged my students to play it a few times. I like it (and they seemed to like it as an alternative at least), handed out rule sets etc., but it doesn't seem to catch on (reportedly, none of them has ever played it except under my watch). I'll give it another try one of these days.

Having said all this, I'm happy most are playing more Straight Pool again, and show up with regularity at our biweekly tourneys regardless of the discipline being played - that seems most important to me for the time being.

I would not say its the main reason but its my reason for supporting Bonus Ball, I want to see the players do well money wise and ultimately cue sports in general along with others in the industry and pool rooms too. To me that is what its all about, not always what I am getting for my money but what my money is supporting. Bonus Ball is a business, they are investing to make money, they do not need your donations, just check it out and give it a chance to see what it's about. Some are bashing it and have no idea of what the game is about nor have every played it especially with the new rules and changes to the game for the better.

I support TAR by buying the PPVs I half watch and helping to promote it as I can, there are many who do the same as I do because they want to see the matches continue even if this weekend you cannot watch it all. I have bought things plenty of times that I will not watch or use to support someone I feel is good in the industry and in all walks of life. I like Kamui tips but others will do the trick but its my little way of supporting those who support things in the industry I enjoy, I wish more companies would support events.

Bonus Ball will offer more entertainment value and excitement along with the best quality production in pool. I think all will enjoy and be amazed when you get the first taste of it. Time will tell if it works but one thing is for sure people will support it, when I say support I mean in buying products, going to the live events, and watching it whether online or TV. I am a diehard pool addict, this game has it all and something for everyone.

I honestly don't know enough about the game to know whether I like it or not. My only exposure to it was at the Open a few years ago and it seems its not the same game now as it was then so I really have no basis to judge whether it interests me or not. It could be awesome. I'm trying to keep an open mind on the whole deal.

The little interaction I have had with Larry and Barry has all been positive. If anything bothers me a little its some of the "Trust me this is gonna be great" stuff I have heard from some people. Usually people who have some sort of financial interest in the deal. Which is all well and good thats how the world works. Yet when asked questions there are not many answers out there. After the IPT, Galveston, and several other past ventures that approach just doesn't work for me. I'm nobody who deserves anymore info than anyone else but if they dont put it out then its hard to expect people not to say "We'll just wait and see on this one."

I said on one of our podcasts with Johnny that the biggest plus I see for Bonus ball is that it is totally different. That means it can go places traditional pool hasnt. The flip side of being so different is that its tough to get your "regular" pool fans behind it in the beginning. Its a catch 22. If they can solve it with great marketing, production and an interesting product that reaches the mainstream then they are going to make a lot of money and change the landscape completely.

The biggest flaw I see in the game is something I have seen in other walks of life. When something tries to be all things to all people it rarely does any one thing well. But hey the guy who made buggy whips probably said there was no future in those powered carriages either. Most people cant see paradigm shifts coming. Thats what I see Bonus Ball having to do to succeed. Change the entire way people look at pool. If they can do it I think it will be huge. As for do I think they can actually do it I'll have to wait and see some of the end product first.

At this point no even knows the rules of the game (outside of the players and people involved obviously) so to predict anything either way seems very premature.

I do know that all Run Out Media stuff has been fantastic and this will be nothing short of that, was a pleasure to work with the crew and fun experience too. :smile:

I remember that promo tape. It's nice and sleek, dare I say typically American in that watching it seems to give the viewer lots of thumbs up on how wonderful the game is, but when it's over, one realizes one still knows nothing about the game itself (other than that one appears to be required to spend a goodly sum to buy a score board and perhaps special set of balls to find out what it's about in the first place).

My background is teaching, so what I see is that the party who is trying to sell an idea or product is playing a didactical hide and seek trying to make the audience guess at what, here the seller, has in mind. That rarely works, but usually has the audience waiting for that information to be revealed at some later point, or losing track of the apparent enigma and cease bothering.

Apparently those famous players all played in an event that was filmed? Put those matches on e.g. YT using their names in the head lines, pointing out over and over again that the rule set can be downloaded/printed out from your web site, and everyone will scramble to get a copy of what's being offered for free first, then maybe buy the product.

How are regular schmos suppose to play this game and keep track of all the crap like shot clocks, game timers, who's on what color ball when their turn comes without a fancy game clock??
 
Will reserve judgment on this until I see the finished product, but anything that introduces a time element to pool must be welcomed.

I've only played it with students a few times, but it seems ideal in this respect insofar as it's not one of the games in which one needs to weigh one's options so much as in some (although I won't say it's merely fast and furious, there's clearly tactics to it). If it did give us headaches a few times, then only because we weren't yet fully accustomed with the rules - but nothing that a little practice wouldn't overcome.

From what I understand there are several interesting concepts involved. The time clock is a big one as well as team play and having a season with I assume play offs. It looks like they tried to take aspects of the big four sports in the US and apply them to a pool game. That has always sounded good in theory and will be interesting to see how it works in practice.
