Is there anyone better at installing a higher end leather wrap than Kenny Koo?

Another vote for Kenny Koo... I think what is just as important as his craftmanship which many have chimed in on is his business management. He keeps you updated during the process and delivers his product when he says he's going to deliver.

I would not hesitate to deal with Kenny Koo

OK, I'LL BE THE HOMER HERE....... NO OFFENSE TO KENNY, BECAUSE HIS WRAP WORK IS AWESOME, BUT PETE TASCARELLA DOES THE BEST LEATHER WRAPS, BAR NONE.

Hi,

Leather wraps unlike string wraps require the ability to improvise in different situations. One who strives for perfection in these types of wraps must have tons of experience to hit the home run out of the park every time.

Every time I do a leather, I still feel some degree of trepidation and I have been doing them for 7 years. Each piece of material is different and requires the operator to take in to account all of the permutations associated with each specific material and the geometry of the step groove elevation, IMO. I learned the hard way after ruining 2 ring tails in a row because at the time I was always trying to compensate for a little stretch in the seem area. "Bad Idea". I found out that the hard way that lizard did not want to stretch.

I have not seen Kenny's work but I have heard things. As for Mike's, Steve's and Ernie's stuff, I have seen them and that is what we should all strive to achieve on a consistent basis. Consistent being the key. I wonder If Ernie ever finishes a wrap and is unhappy with it and does a re do. I know I have done this more times than I want to remember!

REALLY? I HAVEN'T?

YOU NEED BETTER INFORMATION. I'VE SEEN HIS WRAP WORK FIRST HAND, AS WELL AS HIS CUES.

I'VE ALSO SEEN MIKE WEBB'S WORK, AND ERNIE'S, AND LOMAX'S........ ALL VERY NICE, ABOVE AVERAGE WORK, BUT NOT ON THE SAME LEVEL AS PETE.

WHAT WOULD MAKE YOU THINK I'VE NEVER SEEN KENNY'S WORK? I EVEN SAID IN MY LAST POST THAT HIS WORK WAS AWESOME, JUST NOT ON PAR WITH PETE.

Sorry Marcus didn't see that. But just out of curiosity since we are talking about quality of work... Why is Pete's so different from everybody else? What are the things that really pop out? Seem? Leather quality?
Just curious... Everybody is giving their opinion, but why are some people better than others? We can be debating all day long but it's important to point out why.
Another cuemaker that does does a phenomenal job is Pete Tonkin. I can never find the seem and not even the tiniest glue residue on his wraps.

WHY IS IT THAT PETE TASCARELLA AND HIS WORK ARE GETTING QUESTIONED WHEN NO ONE ELSE WAS ASKED TO "DEFEND" THEIR ANSWER?

I'LL GLADLY ANSWER, BUT THAT SEEMS ODD TO ME...............

PETE'S LEATHER WORK HAS ALWAYS BEEN TOP NOTCH. HE WORKS WITH ANYTHING FROM ANTIQUE HARD SMOOTH LEATHER TO THE NEWEST EXOTICS WITHOUT EVER HAVING A VISIBLE SEEM, GLUE LINE, OFF EDGE, UNEVEN CUT, OR ANY OTHER DEFECT. THE ANTIQUE STYLE SMOOTH LEATHER HE DOES IS SOMETHING I'VE NEVER EVEN SEEN ANYONE ELSE ATTEMPT.

HOW MANY TASCARELLA LEATHER WRAPS HAVE YOU SEEN IN PERSON? HAVE YOU EVER OWNED A TASCARELLA WITH A LEATHER WRAP?

Marcus

There are only two people I know doing the Bushka leather like George did. Pete Tasc and Rubino. Both do great work on these wraps.

Marcus,

Not defending anybody. I was just curious. I know you are probably the biggest fan of Pete's work. I did own a Tascarella but had a linen wrap. One of my top players I've ever had.
All I am saying is that there are over a 1000 cuemakers out there and most of them I am sure they do an awesome leather wrap. What makes their work stand out from the rest? From a cuemaker perspective why is cuemaker A wrap better than cuemakers B leather wrap?

PERFECTION.

MANY CAN PUT A WRAP ON, PETE DOES IT PERFECTLY EVERY TIME.

THAT'S MY DISTINCTION.

I DON'T CARE WHO ANYBODY USES, OR WHAT OTHERS THINK...... A QUESTION WAS ASKED, I ANSWERED. I'VE HAD A LOT OF CUES, AND HAVE SEEN/HELD MANY MORE. THAT MEANS I'VE SEEN MORE LEATHER WRAPS THAN I CARE TO REMEMBER, BUT,IMO, NO ONE CAN MATCH THE WORK PETE DOES.

If that's really your stance on the matter, why did you respond earlier in the thread pulling out specific names?

- B <--------- still thinks Paul Fanelli did some of the best out there, bar none.

I thought you were all talking about Kenny Koo on here and I find all this.

Kenny's wrap work is some of the best I have ever seen in the 27 years I have been buying cues. Unbelievable quality, the man cares about the finished product.

He makes a mean cue too.

He is also a ridculously nice guy.

What a son of a ***** ;)

Wow!

I certainly wasn't trying to start a fight. lol Someone asked me what i thought the other day about who i would send a certain cue to and I said Kenny since Paul Fanelli is no longer an option.

Tascarella smooth antique leather. I agree with Marcus. I have seen 20-30 leather wraps from all tier of makers and none compare to this one.

btw, you are looking right at the seam.

The first thing my eyes landed on was the seem, so they can't be the best. I like that leather though

Nobody can put that leather on so you can't see the seam.
