Earl Strickland is my favorite player. I could watch him play all day. Perfect stroke, amazing shot-maker, excellent position player, and he does it ever so quickly. He has given me many hours of enjoyment watching his videos. I haven't heard any news about what Earl is doing in quite a while. Any updates would be appreciated.
I know he has some issues and many people do not iike him. Please do me a favor and do not post any negatives comments. Please try to keep this thread going in a positive direction. As Thumper's Mom said: "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything".

I'm an Earl fan too... It's going to be fun watching him in Tunica playing on the 10' diamond. I wish him well...

I don't know what 'ol Earl's up to these days, but he "made my day" a couple years ago at the Galveston World Classic. He comes into the arena for some afternoon practice with his cue case, but the hilarious thing was that he was totin' all his many other pool-shooting gadgets/paraphenalia around in a Kentucky Fried Chicken take-out sack :grin::grin:.

Funniest thing I've ever seen at a pool tournament.

Maybe if I ever get a case made-to-order from a custom casemaker, I'll get a KFC logo embroidered into the leather :).

Earl.......ya gotta luv him!!!

Based on a facebook posting of the tourney director, Earl is the house pro at Steinway Billiards, Astoria, Queens, NY. He is playing the Mon/Weds tourney there. I stand corrected, though.

I am a Earl fan too. I was thinking about him the other day while watching the world 9 ball tournament. It was interesting reading one young American player complain that he "only" had 30 days notice to buy a plane ticket to the tournament so he couldn`t make it. I wondered how a 26 year old Earl Strickland would have reacted. I think Earl would have been there if he had to paddle a canoe across the ocean. Earl really believed he was the best player in the world and he wanted to play all the great players at all the big tournaments. I really miss Earl`s audacity.

I spoke with Earl last week we were talking about doing a couple of exhibitions and maybe a challenge match. We talked about how hard things were to get done these days as far as the Legends and Champions type stuff and pool in general. He told me things were as hard in Greensboro as they were with me and that he was probably going to go to New York. He said he was up there not too long ago and stayed busy with lessons etc. I didn't think he was gonna make the move that quickly, if what the previous poster says is correct about him being the house pro then he must have got off the phone and got in his car to NY :) Anyway thats all I got.

In about two months, Earl will (hopefully) make a trip to Germany.
He will be the "featured" player in a big tournament called Hangelar Open.
Im excited to see him in live-action as I am a big fan of his game. His manners may be disputable, but he's cleary one of the greatest to have ever played the game.
Here's a link to the tournament website if you are interested and your german is good enough ;)

I love the way he play's but his Behavior is a whole new post...

He has always been a tremendous talent. Pool sometimes can be a boring sport of pocketing balls and playing position. Any pro player can do that. For all his rants and raves Earl adds excitement to pool. It probably wouldnt be too bad to have a couple of more pro players that could add excitement to the game of pool. Earl the Pearl

I agree and Earl, unlike some of his fellow pro pool players, has never been accused of dumping a match as far as I know. I would much rather watch Earl even with his behavior than a couple guys who have cut a deal behind the scene.

Pete, I had the pleasure of having Earl over for a 1P session where he played better than anyone I have ever seen and was a perfect gentleman in the process. He left here and a couple of weeks later played great in a major 1P tourney which was no surprise to me after his performance here. Waiting to get him back here for seconds, he is welcome here anytime. If I knew how to post a couple of pictures I would.

I can confirm that Earl is now the house pro at Steinway. Its pretty cool hearing Earls war stories outside between matches. I almost got to play him too, but could not get passed Joey K.

I'm all giddy like a small boy getting a new bike!

I just got off the phone with Earl and will be taking lessons from him when I go to New York this August! Unlike my friend who has all kinds of things on his to-do list, I didn't really have any.

What a great surprise to log into AZB today and see this thread. I'm going to be getting my first lessons from my favorite player!!!

And he did say he would be leaving for Germany in mid August.

Spoke with Larry S. while we were in Vegas during May. Earl is / was living with him while in NYC.

Thanks for all the positive comments about Earl and the great stories. Guapo, you are a lucky son-of-a-gun. Getting some lessons from Earl would be a real delight. When you see him, tell him that he has a lot of fans on AZBilliard website and wish him luck in Germany.

Earl in Germany and only 200 miles from my hometown :clapping:...i try to beat him
with his own weapon - his 2000 Cuetec Starlight cue...
