Burton Spain on Ebay

Nothing about the cue says Spain in my book. Bumper, points, joint and rings don't look right. Not an expert. I do know he used multiple joints til the late 70's before he went with the thread coming out of the shaft. Personally, I say stay away. Just my .02.

Emailed Joel for authenticating,
He replied:
"Hello Alan,

Good thing you contacted me because that is not a Burton Spain cue in the photo. Looks like an import, it's not even a Spain blank. If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask.

Joel

Enough said I guess. Thanks Joel.

looks like someone is going to get a steal on what the ad calls a "High Collector Quality" cue. I guess you'd have to be...

Actually, looking at it more, points make me think Huebler. Only thing is the joint looks like it is piloted. ??????????

why is the joint ring different in the last pic, looks like a nice cue thou, whoever made it.

Also, the last photo is a completely different cue.

Why are humans so evil to rip others off?

Yeah, I saw that too. The last photo appears to be a Palmer cue that the seller also has listed.

I'm surprised this Spain auction hasn't been reported and pulled yet... I hope someone doesn't get ripped.

Palmer Cue

That is a good price for the Palmer with a few hours left. This Guy has a 100% rating with 289 transactions. Perhaps he made a mistake on the Burton Spain but I doubt if EBay pulls it...it will probably sell for over a grand...someone will take a chance!

? 54" with a 15mm shaft...hmmm

final value: $1,226.63....

Holy catnip batman....If Joel said that ain't a Spain, I don't know who would argue that! Maybe the buyer was just going off of what the cue case said??

I'll guess that's what both the buyer and the seller were going on. The seller tells a story about his father buying the cue from Spain. Perfectly plausible...but that does not mean Spain made it.

Exactly. If I remember right, didn't I read somewhere that Burton Spain was a distributor for Adams cues at one time? Could be an honest mistake on the sellers end, if it comes out hopefully he'll make it right.

Yes, he did sell Adam cues.

In fact there is an image of an old brochure on Joel Hecek's web site: http://www.hercek.com/index.php?opt...ncuecatalog&catid=11:spain-resources&Itemid=6

I am not convinced that is an Adam cue though, while it certainly isn't a Spain made cue...

Spain could sell anything he wanted I suppose...perhaps even a cue he took on partial trade just as cue makers currently do. There are probably at least one or two up for sale here on AZB by cue makers that aren't cues they made but that they took on trade.

The seller was made aware of the fact that Joel said the cue was not a Spain. He chose to not post that info in questions and answers and to not change the description. That certainly makes me question his integrity.

You find out how much integrity a person has when the money is on the table.

Can you force EBay to notify the buyer?
