$50,000.00 Match

Well things have changed. :(

This evening, I spoke to Scott "The Freezer" Frost and Chris "Nitro" Gentile to firm up the match because it looked like the money aspect was doable at least on Efren's end as there were a few crazy coon asses that were going to risk some dough to see the match take place at Buffalo Billiards in Metairie, Louisiana.

Scott told me that he is no longer interested in playing the match. He said that he thought he heard me say that the match would be played in Las Vegas at TAR. He said he wasn't interested in playing the match in Louisiana.

That saved me a lot of headaches anyway. Getting all of the factors to work in a synergetic manner is no easy task. While I would have fun with the match it looks like it took a u-turn and it won't be happening.

The Freezer and Nitro are continuing to play some high dollar matches but they are tougher matches than before and it is GAMBLING. The louisiana boys can't keep losing every match they play.

Anyway, sorry that it worked out like this and sorry if I got anyone's hopes up prematurely.

I believe the new format that TAR has come up with would be a perfect venue for having a match like this. Neither player would have to worry about coming up with a stake horse, they could just play and the winner would get the bulk of the money. A race to 15 in one pocket would certainly be able to be spread out over three days and winner takes the money.

These matches where the players risk nothing aren't nearly as exciting to watch as if they were betting their own or at least had half their own. Exhibitions take all the pressure away. I would rather see two shortstops bet their own and battle as hard as they can than top players showing up for guaranteed money

I bet you'd get bored halfway through and go hit the pool hall actually.

Guys under real pressure CAN sometimes perform at their peak, but usually don't. You're gonna see more rattled balls, more choked money balls, and more overrunning of position. It's not nearly as pretty. Especially when the guy is just a shortstop and already misses balls all the time, even under no pressure.

The theory seems to be that most players don't bear down unless they have their own money on the line, and lots of it. But pros bear down in situations where other people might not care. Part of what makes them pros is the ability to analyze and focus on shots where other people just step up and whack it.

In any case, you can bet that NO pro wants to lose to another known pro. ESPECIALLY not on a live stream in front of hundreds of people.

They're used to being the best player in town. They have way too much pride to play casually, and allow the sweaters to think "wow, that guy sucks, the other guy is clearly on a higher level." They are already bearing down fully when they play a TAR match, appearance money or not. Believe it. They want to be invited back.

This looks pretty bad from the spectators seat.

"I will play him if he wants to, but I don't want to be the one to ask for the game."

"Well, he want's to. Let's do thisl"

"What?!?!? I don't want to play the match where I've been playing for the last 2-3 weeks. I've been comfortably giving up huge spots, and scoring fat bank here. I thought this was going to be in the TAR studio."

Sounds a little fishy. I'm sure JCIN would put this on TAR for sure. They both have the means, so lets see it. What say you Justin, can you work with Joey and get this thing put together???

I'm hoping but, I SERIOUSLY doubt this match ever happens. I would be stoked to be wrong on this one.

best of luck to all parties,

Justin

While this match looked like it was going to take place right here in Louisiana (and it's not), a TAR match of this caliber of play and dollar amount would be the match of the decade.

Justin apparently knows something I don't about financing and hosting big gambling matches.

Since a lot of people thought that Efren was too old and too feeble to play anymore, the Louisiana boys were willing to take the worst of it and dig deep to try and catch back on some of their losses to the Frost/Gentile team. An accurate survey of the "investors" was done and the Louisiana boys had the money to put up and had given me the signal to proceed.

There seems to be an even greater number of people (at least on this forum) who think that Scott will put Efren in the Freezer, so it appears that it would be a good match regardless of the outcome.

I would still like to see such a match take place even if it is not at Buffalo Billiards. TAR has an excellent arena for matches like this and the format would make any pool player smile.

I totally agree with you about the pride factor. No pro wants to lose to another pro (especially here in the U.S.---and that's a mistake) especially on the live streaming table.

Too much pressure and the Peter Principle takes over.

Just exactly how many times in the last twenty years do you think Efren has bet half his own at anything ?

The guy hasn't even paid a tournament entry in a decade.

Does any of that change how amazing he plays?

I don't think so.

Go ahead and watch your shortstops playing for the last $500 in their pocket. I'll sweat the best in the world.

I'm sorry that this match took a u-turn but I would be happy to help Justin secure this match but unfortunately I can't make the Louisiana boys change their mind about putting their dough on the line. They were all willing to have the match take place in their home room but weren't interested in putting in the dough to have a match take place elsewhere. They just like to sweat their dough with their pals is all, nothing to do with TAR who puts on a GREAT event at their studio.

Anyway, I got a taste for what it takes to coordinate a match of this sort and will probably catch a little heat for shaking the trees but I have new found respect for the logistical skills necessary to coordinate a match of this sort.

Thanks for trying Joey. It does sound fishy on Scotts part to do a u-turn. Johnnyt

We will put up $6,000 and pay for hotel rooms if Efren and Scott want to play a race to 18 in Vegas at the TAR Studio. They have to get to Vegas on their own. Anything they want to bet on the side is on their respective camps but we will put $6000 in the middle or work out a deal where both are guaranteed some money.

Just to save time this offer is non negotiable. There is no more money. We'll work with both guys on rules, schedule everything but I'm not talking for a second about money. If its not enough someone else can put up more.

I dont have a contact with Efren's camp but Scott I know and is easy to deal with. Joey you seem wired in with where these guys are now. I you want to pass this offer on I would appreciate it.

I have bought many of your streams, more when you started than recently because i am so bored with watching 10 ball. The action matches are better imo than the exhibitions. I know many people that feel the same way. i will pay for the one pocket day of your upcoming event if I am not working. Would be awesome if you made it to where we had a week to watch it instead of just when it happens. It's a no go at work for many of us.

I understand your point about Efren, can't really disagree with you there. Still having nothing to lose takes away from the point of playing for money to me and many others

Consider it done, Justin.

It sounds like an INCREDIBLE OFFER for both of them.

Thanks for what you do for pool.

BTW, how many days could the match possibly last (you may have said 3 in a previous post but I'm not sure) and what is the earliest date that this match could take place?

Three day match...race to 6 each day (total race to 18). I would not mind doing seven each day (race to 21) if the guys want to play a little longer set.

Next weekend is TAR 29 so the earliest possible date would be August 24 the following weekend. If Efren is going to be in the states I would prefer to push it to September simply so we have time to tell people about it. But...if hes leaving the country we would probably do what we had to in order to get the match.

if the Efren vs Frost match-up does happen, see if you could get them to at least look as excited as these two. ^^ :boring2:

So when was the last time that one of the players put up their own money when playing before the exhibitions? I can't think of any of the players who put up their own money in a TAR event. Certainly any of the matches that I have been a part of the player didn't put their own money up on either side.

Believe me when there is more money for the winner than the loser any top player will give his all to get the money! I will bet $1,000 and give you five to one that you will never find evidence of the two players playing in a TAR match splitting the money or doing anything but playing their best.

at'a boy for trying Joey!!! I know TAR will do it right. I just think Scott's a little weird on this one. O'well, I hope this can get put together.

best of luck to all parties involved,

Justin

I'm sorry to say, but you point doesn't really hold a lot of water when you openly stated, "I do not gamble." Then you have a big no gambling badge for your avatar. Not trying to be a dick, but you kind of contradict yourself.

If this thing goes down, what is the line on this match? Efren by 1-2 games???

VERY EXCITED TO SEE THIS THING PUT TOGETHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I never said i don't gamble, I don't back players though. My avatar crosses out no gambling. It seems you have problems reading or maybe its bad eyesight. Whatever it is, you couldn't be more wrong

What is with you people and your reading comprehension issues?

I know you are a backer and I have know doubt that most matches you are a part of have a backer. Players bet there own money all the time. I never said it had to be during a TAR event. I did say I bought more of the Early action feeds like at DCC several years ago. Some of them bet their own or at least a part of their own in several of the matches i watched. i understand that many of the large money matches were backed, i have been around pool and gambling most of my life. Not sure why you people think you know everyone's personal background and their experiences. Absolutely nuts
