How is BMX racing an olympic sport, but billiards isn't?!

If the Billiard would be in the Olympic game. the first choice for the Olympic committee would be the Snooker all day long before any pool game.

Are you kidding, you saw BADMINTON players do what PROFESSIONAL pool players have been CAUGHT doing. Why isn't pool a sport? C'mon really?

If Kenessaw Mountain Landis ran the PPA, or IPT, or whatever, how many players would they have?

JV

Because attendance would be low. Very few pool players attend or pay to watch a major tournament so why would the general public do it?

Plus those other sports are fairly exciting to watch.

Yet another "our game should be in the olympics and their game should not" thread. I wonder if the avid golfers have the same threads ....

And WRT the question : "how can something that can be done successfully by an overweight, drunk man smoking cigarettes be considered an Olympic sport??? ", I suggest you ask the curlers

Its because BMX has been around much longer!

BMX has been around since about the 1970's
Pool has been around since.......
.....
.......well nevermind...

Personally I do not feel BMX merits a place in the Olympics compared to pool for many reasons. Table sports like billiards has been around for many years and is still an extremely popular sport for people of all ages and nationalities. I feel that BMX is not even close to billiards in popularity and skill level.

Agreed!

I raced bmx for 7 years. played pool for bout 16 , bmx is much tougher. pool isnt even close to a sport.

I rode bmx competatively as well in my youth and physically wise, it's extremely demanding and pool really isn't ( physicallly wise )..in fact, no pool player pushes his/her body to its physical limits in the gym so that he/she can run consecutive racks...in pool, almost any kind of person no matter their condition can play, hefty, skinny, built, not built. With pool it's all about technique...but in bmx as well as any other olympic sport you MUST be in the best condition physically as well as mentally to be able to compete against other physically stronger competitors. I'm not downing pool in any way, but the demands physically for pool in comparison to what you see in the olympics is hardly a match. Even ping pong is more demanding physically than pool. All in all, I just agree that pool would be fun in the olympics but I believe the olympics is reserved for the more physically demanding of sports

This thread is about BMX.

I think your post was justifying the placement of BMX in the Olympics based on its excitement value over pool. My post was stating there are many sports, I gave 2 examples, that the general public would not find exciting in the Olympics. So I don't believe that's why pool is not there.

Just be happy that its in the Pan Am games

When did this happen? Maybe you're thinking of bowling.

...Imagine pool players who are overweight or in poor physical shape vying for a gold on TV, people would be laughing about it.

Not to mention, many of whom are in their 40's and require cigarette breaks during matches.

...I can't see a hat being passed at the local bar to support the US Pool Team, as the money would get lost, or ????? I can see the BCA, APA, TAP, ACS or other group supporting the US Team.

I think it would fall on the BCA since they are the recognized federation in the USA. I doubt they are thrilled at the prospect of footing the bill. The USA did not medal at the World Games in 2009 and I'm not sure we even fielded a team.

If the Billiard would be in the Olympic game. the first choice for the Olympic committee would be the Snooker all day long before any pool game.

If it was in it would probably include all three major disciplines of pool, billiards, and snooker. At the 2009 World Games there were 4 events: Mens and womens singles in 9 Ball, and mens singles in 3C and snooker.

...Yet another "our game should be in the olympics and their game should not" thread. I wonder if the avid golfers have the same threads ....

Probably not anymore. Golf is an Olympic sport for the 2016 Rio Olympics.

What about trampoline??? The friggin' springs on that contraption is doing most of the hard work.

OTOH, how can something that can be done successfully by an overweight, drunk man smoking cigarettes be considered an Olympic sport???

Maniac (thinks the Olympics is already oversaturated with not-so-sporty-sports)

Check out the video here to see why trampoline is an Olympic sport... (hope the link works!)
