G10 Tip Install........ FAIL !!!!!

I installed a G10 tip on my team captains break cue about a week ago and so far the darn tip has popped off TWICE !!!

First time I just used loctite gel super glue like I use on all my other tips, that lasted about 4-5 breaks and it popped off.

Second time, I used a complete new tip, and used 5 minute epoxy and let it cure overnight, he used it Thursday night in league play with no problems, then today it popped off on about the 3rd break.

What do I need to do to keep this tip on without popping off ??? Any ideas or suggestions ??

Did you put a tip pad on?
I would get a carbon fiber pad from Royce and install that.
Might be kinda hard, I tried to order some a year or so ago and didn't end up getting them...
But I would def use a pad(even fiber) between the tip and Ferrulle.

Use a pad on a G10 tip ??????

No, I didn't use one, but I have 50 or so and can easily put one on next try.

Should I use a different glue or different epoxy ??? I have since been told to try 20 minute epoxy. Any thoughts ??

I use loctite, or tough tip, or whatever ca is handy :)

That is on a bk-2
I left a small but of the original phenolic too.
I hit this thing hard and it hast let me down.
I also have a couple mezz power breaks with g-10 tips on as well.

I'll have to try a fiber pad and see if that helps. If that doesn't work, then I'll put a ferrule/tip combo on it and dare it to come off then, lol.

Thanks again for the help Darcy !!!

No problem.
I use a one piece tip ferrule on my jump cues,
But I find that it hits a bit too hard for break cues.
But you should try for yourself :)

I have a G10 one piece ferrule/tip combo on MY break/jump cue and personally I love it. My captain had used my break cue, that's what led to me putting a G10 tip on his cue (the Cuetec I repaired) and he likes it, IF I can keep it to stay on the damn cue, lol.

How can it hit too hard? I always thought.... the harder - the better......

I always use a phenolic combo and I like the hard hit for breaking.... I would think the G10 would be great in a jump cue.... right or wrong????

Reverse Tenon

A while ago there was a thread about this same topic. There was a suggestion to do a reverse tenon or make a small lip that would interlock the tip and ferrule. The cause that was stated for the tip popping off was side force or a slight miss cue. This lip or tenon style takes care of the side force. Personally I have had problems with the White Diamond tips popping off. It was told to me to use the same type of adhesive that is used on golf clubs. I got it to stay before having to go that far so I don't know how that would work but it is just a thought.

Can't remember where I heard about this first. Powers, or Varney, But it works. The tip has a reverse tennon. Looks like a mushroom kinda. I have a guy here locally that breaks a ton. He kept having pop offs. Put one on for him about two months ago with no more problems!

Varney suggested it but you have fabricate the tip from stock.
I've seen one here with a hole in the center too.
Ala stemmed tip.

Does G10 make scuff marks on the cue ball??

I believe that BCA has banned all composite tips like G10 and Phenolic for this reason. So if you have a player that uses one in that league they are in violation of the rules.

I put this on a guy's jump cue and it has stayed on so far. I haven't used white diamond tips lately because they do pop off. I used West 205/107 to glue it on.

You know it sucks that you have to go to all that effort to keep a tip on a cue. You would think that NASA would have an adhesive they could give to us that would work!
