That's what I was thinking earlier when I watched it. It makes no sense at all for him to hook himself like that on such an easy shot. Obv he would have concentrated a little more under such conditions
 
That was a reinactment, he did make the shot as shown in the match for the win, but the match wasn't taped. The shot was so dramatic that when word got out about what had happened , it was decided that it would be recorded like it was the match

Just a little 'shot' story, but true. Playing call your SHOT 8 ball & after hooking myself. I looked & looked, because my father told me , 'there's always a shot...you just have to find it'. Then I saw it & called it. I shot through a pack of my opponents striped balls from a little over one diamond up table from the foot rail & near the side rail, with only 1/4 inch clearance between 2 of his balls, wiith english, 3 rails, & cut the 3 ball, which was in the exact middle of the table, straight into the SIDE pocket with rolling pocket speed.
My opponent got up to shoot & I said, 'What are doing? I called the shot.' He replied, 'Oh yeah, you did.'

But.... like most really hard shots that we make, we can NOT enjoy them for very long because I had no shape on the eight(8). I shot something but missed. I did win the game though but it was not a good game as I did not get position twice. Which could have cost me the game as my opponent was a run out shooter unless he gets blocked up which was probably not going to happen since all my balls were gone. He did miss though. Maybe my SHOT had put a little pressure on him.

I've tried to repeat that shot a few times & have not made it yet but I did come VERY close a couple of times.

pretty sure it was exacatly that. well allegedly.

Why isn't there any videos of willie shooting in his prime.That's like the youngest video I've seen of him shoot and it's just a couple trick shots.

The best shot I ever saw was when Robin Hood split that one arrow with another arrow. That takes a keen eye, I can tell you. :smile:
 
Yeah but did the guy who shot the perfect bullseye first deserve to lose?

For the record I split my dad's bullseye arrow once with a recurve bow.

The story I have always heard was that all the film of Mosconi in his prime was destroyed in a fire at his home many years ago.
 
When I saw it 40 or so years ago, it had been recorded using kinescope technology as I recall.

I believe he had be hooked by his opponent when he made that shot.

I remember vividly, Willie chewing furiously on a piece of gum as he walked around the table a couple of times. He kind of backed into the shot.

Not for nothing but even staged, its a heck of a shot!

I saw Annie Oakley, on television once. She was sitting on a galloping horse, preparing to shoot a cigarette out of some guys mouth, when just as she pulled the trigger the horse stumbled. The blast took off half the guys face.
I later heard that he made a full recovery and was giving enemas to the buffalo in a wild west show. It's important that buffalo be kept regular. :smile:

The shot is fun, when Willie shot the ball in, before the kick, was probably where his enemy left him.:thumbup:
