ABP has been forwarded an email from the WPA on the WPA World 10-Ball Championship. Please keep in mind this event was also cancelled in May this year, this is the 2nd cancellation. : Dear All

Tonight I have received a letter from Yen Makabenta saying that he will
release an official statement tomorrow regarding t
he World Ten Ball
Championship (WTBC).

I can tell you that he cannot do the WTBC on the dates that have been
advertised. He will be making a proposal to the WPA to allow him to put the
WTBC on the dates currently reserved for the Summit event (19-25 Nov), and
put the Summit event back one week (27 Nov - 2 Dec), and therefore play both
events back to back. All of this feasible as the dates are available, but
rather than speculate in this email, we need to see and discuss the proposal
within the Board before any decisions can be taken.

As always, as soon as there is anything further you will be notified
immediately.

Thank you - Ian Anderson

Getting the thread back on track, it is good news that the World 10 Ball Championship has been moved from it's original 2012 spot in October to a new date in November (see AZ front page). It will also be joined by another WPA Ranking tournament (The World Summit).

The issue was lack of availability of suitable quality equipment to play the events on. It was not 'the usual suspect', lack of money to pay the prize fund this time.

Now it will be interesting to see how the APB approach this issue. Will they go for the same approach they maintained at last years US OPEN and demand that Raya put up the money in front to the WPA (or even to the APB themselves).
I would wager that they will not be able to push either of these entities around like they did with the Behrmans last year.
This is simply because neither Raya or the WPA would be able to do that. The reason for that is to be found in the way that TV and sponsorship works. You get a little bit before the event, maybe a little bit more during the event but probably most of it after the event.

The blue riband companies like Matchroom and IMG have the resources to bridge that money if the find it necessary.
But none of the other promoters can even dream of that facilities.
So the player will either have to swivel or see the tournaments cancelled permanently.

That would leave a big hole in the schedule especially as the World 8 Ball early next year is also not signed to contract. With time running out it looks increasingly likely that the WPA will look further afield than Fujairah'
