best cleaning solution

If you have a lathe then I feel the shaft cleaner I sell is one of the best ways to go. (I am very biased) :)
But if you don't have a lathe then Magic Eraser is pretty good.

Is that a mr clean magic eraser you are talking about. I dont have a lathe but the last thing i cleaned my cues with was alcohol. it worked pretty good to but i was not sure if the would affect the wood. any other suggestions for someone that lives in a caribbean country with no cue makers around

Thanks for the information cueman. How much is the cleaner that you sell. To the other post as i said they are no cue makers in my country so I have to do it myself. Plus i would like to also do work for other people in my country that play pool.

If you use cueman's cleaner you should buy the sealer and buff also. I say this because without a lathe you are not going to be able to burnish the pores of the wood back closed. This is gonna make you have a lot more build up faster and chances for warping. I have used Chris's products and they work very well as stated.

I am no longer sending any cleaner or sealer outside the USA. But my best advice for you would be to get a lathe and start making money doing repairs, since you would have no competiton. Yes, the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser is what I was talking about.

Lighter fluid

Lighter fluid is THE BEST for cleaning shafts! Pour some on a paper towel and wipe the shaft.

truman

i am not trying to start a war and i respect your opinion, but i would suggest to be VERY careful with lighter fluid as i can desolve some of the glues used on the tips, ferrules and joint rings.
on my lathe i use the hightower cleaner, but when i play away from home, i just a damp paper towel. don't wait until the shaft gets real dirty. i wipe mine down ever couple sets, when i go to the restroom, i just keep the papertowels after i dry my hands.

No shaft sealer outside the USA?

Oh oh, I only have two bottles left. I've tried other sealers but they don't seem to work as well as Chris's.

Guess I'll have to hoard it.

thank you cueman for your advice but may i ask why you wont sell your cleaner or sealer to anyone outside the USA.

I forgot

I forgot;Cues are not what they once were(and dont say they are better) Your better off listening to the experts.

My good friend Jerry (Blackheart cues) told me about Magic Eraser quite a long time ago but I never tried it. Well I was backed up on cues and ran out of liquid cleaner so I tried his advise. Wow. Eight shafts later and still going strong on the same pad. Rinsing each time between shafts. I’m sold. It’s funny how you never try something new till your backed into a corner and need to pull a rabbit out of your hat.

magic eraser to clean shaft

I purchased a magic eraser yesterday after reading this post and it did a great job but I see what looks like white powdery stuff and am wondering if this powder is my shaft being sanded by the magic eraser.

Any thoughts?

The magic eraser does 'fall apart' as it is used and therefore leave a film/residue, that is normal. I use them with denatured alcohol, so there isn't any water in it. The eraser has a micro-abrasive in it I think, but not something that will sand your shaft.
