Build a champion in a month or 2. Is this possible?

Soooo Geno is this trip gonna end up at DCC?? Still 2 months out =) Main room is smoke free but there is smoking in the casino but at least you won't be stuck in it.. Never heard you mention if the smoke in Tunica had bothered you much or not.......

Hard to tell Chris where I will be during that time.

Tunica was great as far as the smoke.

We had to walk through the smoking casino and as long as you held your breath from the casino to the tournament room you were OK. That room inbetween was horrible with smoke.

There was usually about 5 to 10 people smoking right there. Like I said if you held your breath until you were through there you were OK.

There was a gal doing massages and she had her table set up in this smokey room. I had her do a massage. After about 5 minutes of my 30 minute massage I couldn't stand it. She moved her table into the tournament room and kept it there after that. She finished my massage in there.

Right now I'm in Olathe. There is something really wrong there with the ventilation. The air is moving around but the air in there just smothers my lungs. I ask other players there and they are feeling the same thing. One guy told me I don't know why he works so hard to keep the smoking there when the rest of the city is smoke free.

Smoke is money when nobody else can have it. You need to make money in a business. When you can make money it's easy I guess to overlook other peoples health.

I had an ear infection when I got to Tunica. I was pretty sick. About 2 months later it was real bad and I got some antibiotics. Got it under control.

After Olathe here I'm out of this smoke. I feel so sick all the time it's hard to have any fun. Sometimes after being in the smoke I lay down and can't breath good enough to fall asleep. I don't know what is going on with my lungs but I know what is doing it.

Once i get out of Olathe I am going to avoid the smoke like the plague.

DCC should be OK as long as you don't have to walk through the smoke to get there.

I hope I can go. If I do I'll see you there.

I know you are good people so I know Zach must be good people but I thought if he doesn't already have this skill, you should share this "secret" with him. Make sure he learns how to treat "customers" and "non-customers" with respect. Often a non-gambler will hook you up with another gambler if they think you are decent people to gamble with and sometimes it is easy action. Being respectful can make a lot of difference in the current action that he gets, the repeat action he gets and any new action that he might get. Besides being respectful to everyone (until they treat you otherwise) is just a great way to live a life.

Some people occasionally don't mind risking their cash in a match to a stranger and losing their dough if they are treated with a modicum of respect, before, during and after the match.

It will take him a long way, not just in the pool world.

Just make sure he doesn't get too "soft" in the process. :D It takes a mentally tough person to make it on the road.

I am an 'older guy' that like to gamble a little, $5, $10, $20 a game, $25 and $50 sets, nothing 'big time' like I see people write about all the time on this forum. WHERE DO YOU FIND POOL PLAYERS THAT GAMBLE and TREAT PEOPLE with RESPECT??? That's the way it used to be, but now all I hear is a bunch of 'woofing' and then when they get a game, its not who plays the best but who has the best shark moves. I play 8 ball, 9 ball, and 1 pocket, and don't mind playing for something, but the way I see people act when they are gambling anymore, forget about it. I almost started a thread about this topic, but I don't think the players that gamble 'get it', so I'll just keep my bankroll in my pocket and watch the wannabe's and won'teverbe's run off people that do have a little extra in their pocket. At least its cheap entertainment.

To add to this often when you beat someone and they like you they will steer you to other games. Having clocked your speed they will steer you to games that they want to be in on.

Of course you always have to be careful of the double-steer. They could be steering you into a trap offering to take half of the risk but putting you in a game you can't win and chopping up your end with the other player.

But mostly for the small stakes games the friendly loser will often just be nice and steer you right.

My son goes to the U of Cincy. Plays football for the Bearcats.

Should be over there in the end of January or Feb some time. at least that is how it looks now but that can change.

All depends on my bankroll at the time on how much we can play for but 5 big ones is still a possibility.

"The Road" is a life long learning experience that never gets old. It is a conditioning tool not only for your pool game, but your character as well. Along the highways and byways there are several pitfalls a good player can easily succumb to if he doesn't have the drive and motivation to get up and work everyday. Unfortunately, many give up too easy and become victimized by these circumstances they find themselves in. It is something that becomes inevitable for lots of people. However, Gene is a stand up guy and a no nonsense fella. Kudos to him for taking a young player and giving him the opportunity to be all he can be. I was lucky enough to travel with some of the same type of people. I think it is a great experience and it makes you a better player in the long run, but it doesn't happen overnight, or maybe not even in a "month or two." Sometimes it can be grueling and depressing. Others it is a high like none other and makes us feel like we are invincible. It is a lifestyle for only a select few, and to the rest of the world it is a taboo. I'm not sure what it is like to travel "the road" as anything other than a pool player, but I don't see how it can be as much fun.

Gene Cooper out of florida was always called Gene the Machine. And then there is a Gene in Minneapolis that they call Gene the Machine.

They call me Genomachino. The reason was not from pool but my handle on AZ billiards.. I used it before that also.

Players called me gene the machine over the years but I knew it was a shared name.

I'm the real genomachino, that's for sure.

Well' to answer the question, you cant take a player, spend 50k too get him seasoned, playing all the champs in the world' and expect too make money on your investment. He wont beat 3 good players until the whole freaking world knows about it. Ruined the fun in pool IMHO

And this new P.C. bull crap moment made the game vanilla, and took the characters and personality out of the whole game. Teach him to go grind a tourn for 2 days, spend 300 in bill's too win a grand. Cause unless he a complete, unique strange personality, he wont ever hustle........So stand in line, learn to grind a tourn. maybe get a few 1k sets once in awhile....none of those numbers makes it worth a 25-50k out lay in cash, to get a player seasoned well.......

The game has changed but so have I. i have adapted to the game the way it is with the internet and cell phones.

My first trip to Vegas when I started playing again after not playing for 8 years, was a huge learning experience. I was in a poolroom in Omaha ansd I was trying to find someone to give a lesson to. there were 2 guys and one asked me if I would play some $100 or $200 sets. I said sure.....

he came back and said Gene, i need the 7 ball. He took my picture and ran it on the internet and someone told him he needed that.

The line was wrong that he got because I hadn't played for so long. If he would have played he might even have beaten me.

And had some fun.

The goal here is to teach Zack how to manage himself and his money. Once you learn how that all goes the rest is just get playing good enough so you have a hard time booking a loser.

In 2 months I know he will not have to take a back seat to anyone in a tournament situation. That's where I want to take him.

And when someone wants to step up and play for the cash he will be ready.

That's where I want to take him.

Tonight he only went for $80.00 in the calcutta. Half would have been only $40 and give you a shot at some huge money.

He's not even ready for that. Too many good players here that are playing everyday. Zack has only played 3 days now. His pool cue didn't move for 8 months.

He's not ready for the pressure situations that will come up. he's just really trying hard right now just to make the ball.

We will still work the program though. Excersize and good food and lots of sleep.

That's what will get him to where he wants to be.
 
i have met mister Gene twice an is a very nice guy an believes in everything he teaches....i also believe in what he teaches why? because after i had a phone lesson with mister Gene i come out 5th-6th at white diamonds an won the BCA state open an i also went too Mister Denny Stewart... since then i have more confident in my eyeing an getting down on my shot the right way... thanks mister gene keep doing what you do too help the pool world

PS. if you ever want an Average player like me too see if you can make Average player a champion/pro let me know i would love too take on that task with you an maybe go on the road i think that would be alot of fun.... hope your doin well

You are not in the minority by any stretch of the imagination. A few of the so-called gamblers, like to woof at prospective "customers" in hopes of making them angry enough to gamble with them. They resort to calling the prospective customers disrespectfull names and I just laugh at their stupidity.

You're right, that many of these so-called gamblers don't get it. For the most part, these so-called gamblers are just trying to steal something and they're biting off their own nose, to spite their face.

There are many people like yourself that don't mind testing themselves for money, against better players but they don't want the aggravation of dealing with the knuckleheads trying to intimidate them.

Sharking is unfortunately, a mainstay for some of today's pool players. :embarrassed2:

I didn't event start playing pool until after I bought a house. I have a table now, and find it hard to shoot. I have a 1 year old child, a house, and the wife. It seems you cant keep all three happy at once ever. Might just say hell with it and let all three go a bit to get better... doubtful.
