I've just wasted my time going back and forth with someone who said they wanted to buy a cue, and they offered $250 Dollars less than I was asking.

Here's the kicker, after I got the permission from a friend who I am selling the cue for to take the cue at a 250.00 loss. Plus shipping and insurance.

I tell him that I need him to pay for it with a US Postal Money Order. He says that's cool, I planned on doing that BUT I wanted to see the cue in person first, and could I send it before he pays for it.

It needs refinishing and he wanted to see what it would cost. He would not buy it unless I sent it to him first without payment.

I told him that I would take high quality up close pics of the cue at any angle he wanted, and send them to him. But I am not sending him my friends cue without first receiving payment.

What would you do?

Would you send the cue directly to him without payment?

Yes or No?

You are correct... From both a buyer and seller position.

Find a new buyer for the cue.

Not to disparage the prospective buyer without knowing him, but such a proposal has one think that he's either immaturely foolish, naive or a scam artist. Beware! Do not send without payment.

ONLY to a VERY SELECT FEW that I have aquired a VERY good relationship with on the forum and they can be counted on one hand. As a general rule.... Absolutely NO !!!!!

In your case I would be nervous; does he have a lot of transactions here?

Recently I was looking at a cue, it was priced a little higher than I wanted to pay, but the pictures made it look very nice. Out of the blue the seller said he would send it to me. If I liked it send the cash and if not just ship it back. I said that was a first for me, but go ahead and ship it.

The cue was nicer than the pictures and description and it all worked out (thanks Bob).

Being trusting is good as long as you don't get burned. By starting this thread I get the feeling you aren't comfortable with the deal; go with your instincts.

I would have no problem sending out a cue of mine first for someone that i knew personally and trusted, however in this situation....no way. You're selling it for someone so there needs to be zero risk that you could be hung out to dry.

Overwhelmingly I got the results I thought I would get.

I sent the guy to this thread, he now says deal is off, of course there never was a deal. And is maybe upset with me, but you know what?

I don't care, he wasted my time, got my friends hopes up, and just made a stupid stipulation for buying a cue.

I have had 1 guy ship me a cue also without first receiving any money, I was shocked and I did not even ask for that, but he did it anyway. I felt a little uncomfortable about it, thinking what if something happened in the shipment of the cue etc...

Hypothetically, say you trust a buyer 100% as a result of a longstanding, terrific relationship with him.

And, so you send the cue without being paid first.

Now he's got the cue and is walking down Main St. in his hometown doing some errands, maybe even getting the money order to send to you, and then <<<(((BOOM)))>>>, an anvil falls from a 6th floor window smashing his head into the sidewalk.

And just like that, you now have the awkward and unenviable task of letting his grieving kinfolk know that he owes you money.

You have received some excellent advice already in this thread.

You can add me to the group who say, n-o, NO.

best,

Let me guess, he was the 1 who voted yes? :D

I am a trusting person... To the point of ignorance a lot of times. It's best to follow a set of guidelines even if it means losing a sell. That way it's not a judgement call. Business is business . There is about 100 to 1 chance something will go wrong

Maybe

Just sent a blue beauty to a azer i never met. Within 3hrs of his receiving the cue $ was sent just like he said. Some on here have earned that trust. Having said that one lame duck i wquldnt send a piece of chalk. :

To the 3 people who voted yes, please send me a cue and I'll pay you when I get around to it.

i have done it before....i asked around about the person and if a few that i trust said he was good....then i did.....but for a new person that i cant get a vouch from someone....then no i wouldnt ship before cash...

I've done it before and I'll do it again.......with a select few (some of whom have also done so for me) and with the hopes that the infamous "kickin'chicken anvil" wont drop on their heads......at least not while they are holding the cue

I have done it before too, but I knew the person's reputation, and his character, and had no qualms at all about letting him look at and use a cue before he bought it or not. He did buy it though.

I have done it before and am about to do it again. Only a select few will ever qualify for this type of treatment. So save your keystrokes and PMs.
