What are the holes for ?

I was asked this question and I dont know the answer.

my guess was they are for storing tips and the holes allowed you to poke them out. just my guess though
 
most "ultimate tip tools" come with two shaper holes, they shape and roughen the tip to either a nickel or a dime radius. Maybe these two holes are meant for the same thing but they are missing the inserts that have the rough scuffing material? Alternately, maybe they're meant to burnish the sides of the tip to match your ferrule and de-mushroom it?
 
It's just part of the cast mold from where they are made in china would be m guess...

if the the hole are to burnish the tip why are both hole the same size 12.7mm.
why would you need 2 holes , one would work fine.

what happens if your tip is 13mm like most production and custom cues.

Not saying you are wrong because I dont know . there is no directions that comes with the shaper.

Actually they are intended as tip removers. I read that in on-line product literature some where.

Who in the H E double hockey sticks would want to REMOVE their tip out in the field? LOL who knows, stranger things have happened. But if they're tip removers, then the thing should come wih a rabbits foot for whatever comes after popping your own tip off in a pinch!!! I see only misfortune coming ones way.

I'm going with burnishers ...are there different bevels?

What kind of tip tool is it? Sounds perfect for a 314 user :-)
Think maybe I'll get me one and use dem der burnishin holes!!!

I liked this answer at first, but if you screw it into the wall, you can't access the roundy sandpaper bit.

Now I'm leaning towards incense holder.

Or there's a missing piece that fits into the holes.

Or you're supposed to have a leather cord or something strung through the holes to use as a handle/ strap.
 
Hah!!!

I've figured it out, using your other thread as inspiration.

It's for tapping off the excess chalk from your tip, so you don't have to blow it off or bang your cue against the rail to knock it off!
 
Those holes are there to lighten the device so that when a player has it in his pants pocket he isn't pulled to one side from the excess weight. As any pool player worth his salt knows, an unbalanced shot can be disastrous.
Other than that, I don't know what the hell they're for. :smile:
