Mosconi Cup Coverage and Discussion Dec 10-13.

As soon as I found out who both teams were I stated the USA had a good shot at an up-set if they could jump out to a big lead that would take much of the 95% Europe fans out of it. USA had a chance to do this the first day. A lot of people here are on Brandon's case, but no one seems to blame Shane or Dennis for giving a point/match to Europe.

I'm not saying the USA can't win from here...but it will be very tough now. Johnnyt

I disagree. The fact that team Europe does not have Mika or Ralf this year is a major blow to that team. USA wins a close one and the cup comes back to the States. Also Shane and Hatch won they "gave" nothing to team Europe. IMHO USA 11 Europe 8

Niels Feijen got the Europeans back on track in the third match as he took Mike Dechaine to the cleaners, winning 5-0. Dechaine was not at his best, giving his opponent chances throughout and the Dutchman was all over him.

:slap:

Archer is definitely a ROCK...... but..

Also, it should be mentioned, just to be fair, that BRANDON SHUFF did pair up with Johnny Archer and WIN their match against Melling and Van Den Berg. Melling and Van Den Berg are no slouches.

That's holding up pretty good, I'd say.

The Scorpion carried Shuff that entire match. But that's why Johnny is one of the best in the world and has been for decades.

Why dont you go to a place that has Wi-fi and ESPN and use their IP addy?? I know its a hassle but seeing this stuff live is fricking awesome. I get a racing pulse in certain spots and get out of my chair and scream a huge YEAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!! followed by clapping!! It really is something to experience.

Do that or go to a buddies place if you have that option ;)

I am with you

We have plans to make some sweat bets at Buffalo Billiards this afternoon.

Does anyone have the details of who plays who today?

There are no slouches, agreed. I think we expect a lot more from these guys, than we should. The pressure is different when it is team. There is no doubt that table plays tough. Breaking with the 9 on the spot for USA is different also.

I think you will see guys settle in today, two early points for the USA today will be huge.

The key is breaking, which not only includes making a ball but getting enough past the head string. Shane practiced this break when playing Rory last time in Fargo, hopefully everyone else did, because it hurt us last year.

The practice was on Joey A's favorite one pocket table, #17 at Fargo Billiards

not sure its legal to do that?
Well there are all matchs of last year ( and others years too ) MC on Youtube so I don't think there will be a problem.

The replay is viewable at espn 3. Like yesterday, I would assume todays matches will be available on replay this evening as well.

I don't have access to ESPN Player :(.

I bought the stream from LiveSport.tv, their official stream, and they said that they can't have the replay due to copyright's restriction lol.

So, if anyone can give me ( and many others too) a big favor to put the videos of day 1 on the net. Thanks so much

I think I've figured out the three biggest reasons that I love the Mosconi Cup:

The short race format
One of the greatest myths is that it takes a long match to sort out the real champions. I think it is just the opposite. Nothing sorts out the champions like late match pressure. In these short races, it's as if there is late match pressure from the very first ball of the very first rack. Every shot might be the shot that wins it, loses it or turns the momentum.

The wild crowd
The crowd gives the event a feel that is different from any other and
greatly escalates that level of pressure. I've attended pro pool events for almost forty years and I've never seen a crowd that was half as enthusiastic as what is typcialof a Mosconi Cup crowd.

The shot clock
No dithering allowed. Players are not afforded the usual opportunity to put the spectators to sleep with lethargically slow play, and the result is matches and sessions of fairly predictable length, something almost unheard of in pro events in the United States.

Yes, the short races make every rack crucial, the wild crowd provides an atmosphere that is electrifying, and the shot clock makes sure that the action never drags. This is pool at its very best.

Day 2

6 Appleton & Melling v Archer & Dechaine
7 Ekonomopoulos v Van Boening
8 Feijen & Van Den Berg v Archer & Shuff
9 Melling v Hatch
10 Appleton & Feijen v Van Boening & Archer

Johnny errors - 3
Shuff errors - 4

Why in the world would you put facts in this thread??? What purpose could they possibly serve??? Can't you see we're trying to have uneducated differences of opinions here based on feelings and the fantasy that we could do better?

Freddie <~~~ (Okay, maybe nobody said they can do better)
