Assuming it was done by someone competent, it should be as strong, or stronger. When a shaft gets plugged and re-threaded, is it as strong as before, or is it weaker?

I plug every new shaft with a 2 inch piece of phenolic and thread it. I think it is stronger. I think the glue around the 1/2 inch diameter plug keeps the shaft from ever splitting or breaking near the joint.

I also plug every shaft that I make but I install a piece of bocota instead of phenolic .525 - .550 in diameter about 2" in length. I feel phenolic is to abrasive on my taps and pins.

I like to use purpleheart whenever I re-thread a shaft. It taps very clean IMO.
How do you feel the bocota holds up to a g-10 or phenolic pin?

Tapping or live threading.
I like bloodwood, bocote, olivewood, maple and Zylarta for inserts "
It must be you Joey LOL. I wax the inside of the hole and tap with the precision tapping aid and it come out clean, so far.
It is amazing what the thin Ca does and what it can allow you to achieve.
For pplheart and maple rods, I coat them with thin CA then live thread them.
I don't do that with bocote or bloodwood or olivewoook b/c the oil in them takes care of that somehow.
