2013 AZ Billiards Straight Pool Challenge!

120

Last night, just trying some slightly new line up variations. Was going pretty good pace, but had to cue over a ball, and got a NASTY skid.... !

Ball 121 missed by about 6 inches !! lol

First, welcome to the 14.1 subforum. Most that spend time here do not visit the Aiming subforum (including myself, although something from Stan Shuffett there caught my eye, and I hold him in high regard). You must've come here from my invitation posted there.

Second, please know that this is a fairly close-knit community here, people more or less know each other, and are familiar with each other's game. So the numbers you see posted here are accurate, and are accepted via trust -- your word is your bond. "Fish stories" and modified/doctored videos posted here are quickly rooted out, and if go through some of the posting history here from years past, you'll see this. I say this just as one small voice of a welcoming committee here, with this very important proviso. (Otherwise, we'd have everybody and their mother "saying" that they just ran 100+ or 200+ runs -- and especially in the context of "aiming systems one-upmanship" -- which our members here have absolutely NO DESIRE to hear about.)

If you're from Texas, I wonder if you know some of our most respected members? E.g. Mike Grosso (14.1StraightMan), poolmouse, Dave Sapolis (Blackjack)? If so, that would be great -- your 100-ball runner credentials would be recognized and fit right in.

Anyway, welcome to the 14.1 subforum, and hopefully you can post for us a video of one of your runs -- we'd be delighted to see it!

Warmest regards,
-Sean

Sorry to butt in. I didn't know this was a private thread.
On the run validity question, i understand your points. I have run so many hundreds over the years that I have no interest in on-upmanship or aiming -upmanship. I average a 50 or 60 everyday before i quit for the day, but sometimes a 45 is all the table will allow. I was trained in straight pool by dick lane of dallas many years ago. Mostly by racking for him, while he posted 300's on me !!! lol

Also, Yes, I know the people you mentioned, and If you guys are at the Derby City this month, we will meet up for a drink !

Thanks for the welcome...

I had a 24 on Jan 10 in a practice session. Missed a rather easy shot to stop the run. Am playing better recently and hope to move into the 30's soon.

Y:

It's not a private thread at all. It's just like I said -- this is a close-knit community here, so when a new member posts here, the welcome wagon and red carpet are rolled out -- as I'd done for you. Part of the message, though, is just a friendly proviso about fish stories and edited videos -- it's that "once bitten, twice shy" thing that we'd learned here.

There are several 100-ball runners that post here, and I'm one of them. Although I probably don't achieve that milestone as much as I'd like, due to time constraints (i.e. career, family, personal). I average 40/50/60 at the table when I do practice. However, there are several others here who can run with you head-to-head. Dick Lane is a respected name here. Good to know someone that mentored under him!

Unfortunately, I won't be at DCC this year (again, work commitments), but I believe we have some members who are going, and even helping to support the 14.1 Challenge there.

However, I will be at the Super Billiards Expo, and hope to meet you there?

Again, not a "private" forum at all. You are welcome here as long as the proviso is acknowledged.

Warmest regards,
-Sean

Isn't it interesting how some days a hundred is so easy, and other days you can't get past 40 ?? That's what keeps us so in love with it !!

There s just one who s hindering to reach the 30 bud: And this is YOU. Keep practicing the right things, and the 30 s will be there in no time ^^

Ran a 70 yesterday in practice. This is my high run!

Mike

Congratulations on your high run. Not that I have ever been there, but 70 is a nice number. What was your high run before you got to 70? How many plus 50s before you got to 70? We got a few guys in our leagues here in chicago that get 70s occasionally.

My brother had a high run of 50 something for many years. I went ahead of him with a 57 a few years ago and he got a 70, so I would love to be where you are, if only for my personal sibling rivalry.

N1 jim:D

Put me up for a 61.
Ended whitey finding its way into corner pocket after eating thru the full rack:mad:

Congrats on the big run, but it sounds like one of many. As mentioned by others, Dick Lane is a very well respected name in the straight pool community.

You mentioned Derby. Are you going down there this year? Maybe I will see you there? Do you ever play in the straight pool challenge?

Hey Dennis!! My high prior to the 70 was 66, and that was a few years back. I bounce around from 8 ball leagues, 14.1, and snooker. However, been practicing only 14.1 the last few months.

I used to keep track of my runs daily in a log, but stopped awhile ago. Hit 50's on occasion, but mostly run 40's. My high in league is 45.

Every rack broke nice on the 70 run. Really no tough issues to overcome. At the end of the last rack I left a cluster on the rail until the end (cardinal sin) and ended up with a table length break shot, that wouldn't ever be considered a break shot in a million years. Gave it my best stroke, but rattled it and the cue ball never came close to rack. Wish I had a camera set up, would have loved to relook at that last rack, and figure out a better pattern.

Are you sure your spelling knit right Sean? I think maybe YOU should spell it 'nit' and that would be closer. How do you know what all the members do and don't have the desire to learn or entertain as an idea for improving their aiming skill, that seems like alot to know.

new high run for 2013

I ran 182 last night with the dvr and new camera that I bought, it took me 44 minutes. I scratched on the break shot and it was not a friendly scratch. I have no excuses like my work or not enough time to practice and all that. It was just an unfortunate roll off the break shot. I have video but will wait untill I break 300 to post any and or see what I am to do with promoting it. The table has slow cushions which makes the pockets play softer but it takes a bit more of a power stroke to move the white around - plus the lighting is not the best.
