2013 AZ Billiards Straight Pool Challenge!

Derby

Congrats on the big run, but it sounds like one of many. As mentioned by others, Dick Lane is a very well respected name in the straight pool community.

You mentioned Derby. Are you going down there this year? Maybe I will see you there? Do you ever play in the straight pool challenge?

Yes, going to the Derby, and will be playing in the challenge....

Maybe something good will happen !

keep working.....

There s just one who s hindering to reach the 30 bud: And this is YOU. Keep practicing the right things, and the 30 s will be there in no time ^^

In the early 70's, i was shown and told to practice 14.1 by a well known pro. I remember working at it for year before i ran a 30 !....lol

So it does take time, but you WiLL get there !!

28

Had a 28 last week, Jan 5th. Had a 27 yesterday, hope to get my high run this year!

Are you sure your spelling knit right Sean? I think maybe YOU should spell it 'nit' and that would be closer. How do you know what all the members do and don't have the desire to learn or entertain as an idea for improving their aiming skill, that seems like alot to know.

Good grief, Danny, get a grip. This is the *14.1* forum. There is a separate *Aiming Conversation* forum. The distinction between the two exists for a reason -- conversations of one topic go in one, and conversations of the other topic go in the other. I'm sure the readership knows that if they want to explore aiming stuff, the forum exists for that topic, and they are free to go there. Nobody is telling anyone about what to learn or why -- that is *YOU* reading into that, or rather, thinking this is an opportunity to sling an arrow at me.

Aren't you aware of what happened out on onepocket.org, where the threads there were getting polluted with aiming systems discussions, and the mods had to intervene?

That is very cool, DJ -- showing consistency into getting into that second rack. String a few of those together -- with a safety in between -- and look out!! That's what wins matches.

Played a few practice racks a couple nights ago (Jan. 11, 2013). My high run was 15 I think. Pretty low, but I'm going to make it a point to practice more 14.1 this year.

Good point Sean. I knew what you meant as soon as I read your one comment. Sometimes one must really spell out comments step by step for other people to understand.

Danny. i saw some of your previous videos, and remember thinking how easy you make it seem !!! You're a gifted player !

Please try to pass on to all of us any ideas you have for improving runs and patterns.
thanks in advance,
y

Thanks for being real. Please introduce yourself if I see you out at the Derby in the straight pooloom.

Will see you at the derby..

Maybe i can get some pointers from you too !!!

I got some help from schmidt last year, but he's a hard act to follow too ! lol

I spent a little time in that room last year. Did you try the challenge? How did you do?

29 tonight, Jan 17th. key ball for a side pocket break was located nicely, and i was straight on to it, but about 5' away, and i needed just a couple of inches of draw, but instead hit a stop shot, so was dead straight onto the break ball. grrrr.

but putting together Any kind of run was quite a relief, as i've been in a rut since last weekend. sparkle84 (Steve) came by, and he put together a 40 while i was running 3's and 5's...

I really have no one to play 14.1 with. So if I go to the room and no one is there to play 9 or 10 ball I practice 14.1 because I like to play it and I think it's the best way to keep sharp.
So the point being i never count how many I run.And because I can run multiple racks sometimes I will realize that I've made 2 or 3 break shots and have no real idea how many I've ran.Kind of in my own little world just playing and thinking about other things.I never play to run a bunch on purpose and counting is too much work.
Just a guess but last week I know I made a handful or so then ran two more racks and again a handful.
So I'm going to call it about a 45 or so. Maybe less-maybe more-not sure.
Sometimes a friend will say you ran x amount of balls because he was counting and I have no clue what I did. Might be the fact that I drift off mentally while playing. I am pushing 66 and concentrating is getting more difficult.
I really have to push myself to bear down playing.

Put a coin on the rail as you rack, move it one diamond every time you hit a break shot ! this is what most of the pro's do.

New high run 108!

Ran a 108 this morning! My previous high was 76 a couple years ago. For those of you who know my overall pool skills, you're probably surprised that I've never run 100. So it feels good to finally join the club.
