Athena?

Froggy1369

AKA Laura!
Hi! I have shot off and on since I was as about 6! I am 33 now, and have never owned my own cue. I have started playing in an APA league and decided I might want to buy my own stick. I don't want to spend a lot because it really is more of a night out of the house than anything else. I have been shooting with both the bar cues and my boyfriends Lucasi LCB6 with a Kumui soft tip.

I am looking at getting myself an Athena Cue with the same tip he has on his. Why the Athena? Well to be honest they have some really cool sticks! Yes I am a girl like that. Plus for the price... 133 with the tip, joint protectors, and shipping it's a deal.

So my question is can anyone give me a good hard reason not to purchase one of these? Do you know anyone who plays with one? Pros/cons? Like I said, I am not ever going to become a tournament player or anything more than a local bar APA league player. I would rather invest more money in my golf clubs!

Thanks in advance for any advice you guys have! :) :p

You might be able to get a Lucasi for a similar price, and you know how it hits, chrisbanks

Nothing more frustrating that getting a new cue and finding out you hate it.

Okay so seeing the white ChrisBanks reference, I had to look it up. I assure you I am not anyone named Chris Banks who has been banned from the forum, if that was the point in putting that there. You can look me up on FB (Laura Yadlosky) I am a real 33 year old, stay at home mother, who lives in Scranton Pennsylvania looking to purchase a cue stick.

If that was not the point in it, sorry. And thank you for your advice regarding the Lucasi.

Athena cues are great, they come with joint protectors, a 12.5mm tip and a free extension. I think they are a great cue, especially after you put that kamuii tip on there. as long as you like it, that's what counts!!

Thank you Jgar. I know I am taking a risk buying a stick offline and that's why I figured I would ask. I know everyone's mileage will vary. Hopefully any stick I go with will be okay for me.

My wife liked them a lot too. The only negative I found was you cannot pick the weight of the cue when you buy it.

that is incorrect, they are offered 17oz -21oz but i know sometimes certain weights are backordered

The specific one I am looking at is offered up to a 21. However, depending on which website view them on, they don't give the option. I believe I have found my best deal on it with the upgraded tip to be at cheapcues

I've sold a few Athena cues and from the zero complaints department, I'd say they stand up pretty good for the occasional shooter to the league players. They were designed and created specifically for women, and some even come with a removable screw-in extender.

Do they have a little compartment for lipstick, mascara and so on?

Of course. Women are so darn logical at times. I should have known that.
Just having a little fun with you.
Good luck with whatever you buy.

LOL Yeah Logic gets me every time! Call it the military intelligence in me! LOL Oops that's a major oxymoron! Yep I said it!

Anyway like I said I am sure almost any cue I buy will get the job done I need it to do. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't buying a well known piece of CRAP!

Laura, FTR I had a woman teammate that used an Athena cue (the model with the roses painted all over the forearm). She loves her cue.

FWIW, the Athena cue has a slightly smaller diameter butt (to fit a woman's hand better), a 12.5mm ferrule/tip, and like some have already posted, a short extension comes with it for no extra charge.

I hit with it some and it wasn't what I'd prefer, but certainly wasn't what I would call a "bad-hitting" cue.

I say: Go for it, girl!!!

Maniac

Thank you Maniac! The smaller butt was probably my only concern. I don't have a typical small woman's hand. In fact I have a rather large hand for a woman. I think I am going to give it a shot though! I am looking at the pink zebra one! Originally the purple tribal, but then I spotted this one! Lol

I got my wife one a few years ago. She's five-foot-nothing and was looking for a shorter cue. Hers is 56" overall with a half inch shorter than standard butt and shaft. The inch does make a difference. She plays pretty good with it and I think it has a good hit. It came with a screw on extension too
