Why Are Player's Not Coming To The USA?

I think a big part of it is because of tournaments like the US Open 9 Ball that don't pay , or don't pay on time. Another reason is the US doesn't have many or any tournaments that have over a 25k purses. Having to finish better than 5th to make some money isn't very inviting to most of them. Another reason for some counties player's could be the money exchange. I believe also that they are taxed at about 30-35% on thier winnings here. Also a lot of the countries that send their players here have their economies in the toilet. Johnnyt
 
What he said, plus they actually seem to have a healthy pool scene. No need to travel thousands of miles. What's the china open pay out, like 40k? There's also the WSOP in indonesia (another 40k first prize), and the Japanese tournaments.
 
a lot may not know how tight travel restrictions in the US are, specifically getting a tourist visa - very strict requirements and interview process. I wont even mention the visa fee and of course the cost of travel.
 
Quite frankly I'm surprised that tournaments here attract as many overseas partcipants as they do. I realize some might be permanent residents here in the States, but I know others are not. It just doesn't seem there would be enough incentive to put up with the costs and hassle of international travel.
 
I'll tell you from the first hand.Money isn't reason for the most players but the fact it is very hard to get visa for US.Especialy for some countries that are not became the part of EU yet.So,I would come only because of the action and because there are much more first class players there.So,in the past when I was about twenty yeras old or so it was easier to get visa,but now when I am in thirties I am candidat for staying in US on thought of custom State department and they not give visas easily.So,the same reason is why there are many of Asians don't come and play in States.

Why do we let foreigners come here and take prize winnin's away from good ole American boys anyway? Most of 'em are gamblers and criminals who just come here for the welfare benefits too!

Yet there are some foreignors that have moved to the US. Daz, Mika and I don't know who else.

Yes, there are a few more of them that stay here most of the year. But i'm talking about the ones that have to travel from thier own countries to play in ours. Johnnyt

we'd both agree on the visa part - that it's hard to get approved in getting one. but I must insist that money is also a significant factor. i'm not sure about chinese taipei's economic status or its cost of living, but if going to the US is really cheap or affordable then i'd say 3 dozen Filipino pool players would have joined in the previous US Open.
