Proposed TAR matchup: SVB vs. C.J.

my "home court" in Dallas Texas

How about SVB vs. C.J. Wiley in a TAR matchup?

I believe it would be wise to play him on my "home court," not his. I'm looking to bring Keith McCready out of retirement, Earl Strickland, David Howard, and I'm sure Efren would love to have another shot at me.

Sounds like fun, and I will certainly get a chance to see if this TOI Technique really works or not. ;)

Would love, love, love to see a match of two-shot/push-out, a format which favors the player who can execute their arsenal of shots proficiently as opposed to occasionally "getting lucky" due to a bad or good roll, depending on how you look at it. I haven't seen a game played with these rules in a long while, but I think it would be a novel-type match, interesting as well as entertaining.

SVB no, I don't think anyone can beat him right now, but Earl, Efren, Howard or Keith.....I don't know. We have not seen CJ play in quite some time so I can't call it. If he is playing like he did in the late 80s early 90s I like his side of it for the cash. CJ vs SVB with the old school push rules....that match would be much closer than you might think.

Six great players all meeting up at the same time for a match would be awesome.

I would definitely pay to watch that. The matches could be recorded and sold. I would even buy the DVD to add to my collection of great matches of all time.

Edit: I wanted to add that it would be cool if all of the players were mic'd up. I think "King of the hill" would be a better and more entertaining format.

Great post.

Great idea! Also, SVB is too strong for CJ. imho

SVB plays each day and in many tournaments, CJ didn't play so much pool in last time. Normal that SVB is the favorite.

I saw C.J. matching up with Danny D. at the Golden 8-Ball in Phoenix in 1988 or 89. If you were following pool at that time and heard all the stories about C.J., you'd immediately understand why, to this day, he's capable of beating anyone on the planet. Sorry C.J. if I revealed too much!

CJ, I have been reading some of your posts but I don't think I have ever read anything that might indicate your abilities now. How are you hittin' em?

Of course I have seen video of you playing a long time ago and you were great. It would be so amazing and nice if you can still compete at the top again.

Regards

I'm not disagreeing that CJ was a monster player, but how well somebody played 25 or so years ago gives me little confidence on well how they'd fare against the best players in the world today.

Archer and Strickland excelled during that time period and they're still considered two of the best American players. I'm including C.J. with them.

How about an old schoolers' ring game? Anybody could stream it if it's in Dallas...TAR, InsidePool, OTS, whoever. Throw Sigel into that mix, too. If not a ring game, maybe a king of the hill, winner keeps playing, AccuStats determines the winner. Somebody recently streamed a ring game with a bunch of shortstops and one old salt of a roadplayer (70+ years old, he got second). They used poker chips to keep score, once you were out, you were done...winner take all. It was VERY entertaining, even though I'd never heard of any of the players. Put in Howard, Sigel, CJ, Earl, Efren, McCready, Hopkins, Varner, Archer and anyone else that won a title in the 90s or earlier and I think you have a big time winner. Even Buddy, if he's up to it. Or break it up into smaller ring games played over a series.

They're still considered two of the best American players (Archer more so than Strickland) because of their recent achievements, not what their game was like 25 years ago.
