What did I miss with the BCA instructors

I keep seeing this new organization that appears to have replaced the BCA instructors. Am I right?
 
In the past, some entities had "issues" with the BCA organization. Really, it's just a professional association for pool instructors. The PBIA is an independent association, geared toward creating an 'industry' association that offers professional instructors some sort of 'accreditation', regardless of who they are, or under what original umbrella organization they came from. It's also an attempt to offer some sort of instructional standards to those that are interested in teaching others. Anyone may join, and all are welcome.

Sounds like a good idea and hope that you guys have success with it. Like I said just wondering. Is there still a BCA instructor's program or is it now redundant? I am trying to think how many BCA instructors there actually were. I am sure there were lots I have not heard of but I know the main ones to really be you and Randy.

The BCA instructor program changed into the PBIA instructor program. Most of the instructors who were in the BCA program followed into the new organization.

There are many instructors that post here other than Scott and Randy that are affiliated with the PBIA.

It's 'interesting to say the least', that I would be welcome should I ever decide that I'd like to join the ranks.

Like, James Bond, said, "Never say never."

Who knows, after my son's wedding & I get my table back, it might be something to do when I'm fully retired.

So the PBIA is no longer associated with the BCA? I never knew that.

Why do I still get communications from the BCA as if they were still associated?
 
I am confused as a consumer..... Who came up with the qualifications for a PBIA Master instructor and what makes them more advanced than all the other instructors that allows them to basically judge someone else competence?


I mean looking at the requirements it seems you must take a 3 day course which I assume is not free given by one of the "Master Instructors" at a approved facility which there seems to be only 5 nationwide and that is for the base level .

Hands on work.
It takes quite a few years and 100's of students to become a Master Instructor. It also requires a lot more education. Although this might not make them "more advanced than others", it does make them qualified to share their information to other up and coming Instructors.

The main job of a PBIA Master Instructor is to certify more Instructors into our program. To make our program grow from the bottom up.

PBIA Advanced Instructors can also certify Instructors into our program.

You are correct. The Masters charge a fee to all Instructor Candidates. The 3-day course is just the begginning of the journey.

There are about a dozen Master Instructors and just as many Advanced Instructors nationwide.

Three Master Instructors (Randy-Scott-Tom) travel around different parts of the USA conducting Pool Schools. One might be real close to your home town.

I would have thought that in the beginning at least everyone would just keep the qualifications they had as BCA Instructors then as time goes by it can be tweeked. Hey its not my thing but I keep thinking about getting a certification to teach a little. Still thinking on it.

Fran,

That's a good question. I assumed, which one should never do, that the PBIA by it's 'Association' designation was merely an association of BCA instructors. But if the PBIA is not sanctioned by the BCA then one being 'certified' by PBIA affiliates might not be BCA certified.

Is there a duallity? Is one being certified as a BCA instructor AND 'joining' the PBIA, because the BCA simply recognizes the PBIA as it's instructor 'program'.

Can one be a BCA certified or authorized instructor & not a member of the PBIA?

These questions would seem to be an extension of the OP's original question. I assume Mr. Goettlicher would have the answers.

But it is interesting, to say the least.
