The Green Room - Durham, NC

Just returned from North Carolina where I spent a few weeks in Durham.

When time permitted, I went to my favorite Durham poolroom, The Green Room on Broad Street. Good equipment, low prices, good people, and good times are the rule at The Green Room.

The management treated this New Yorker like one of their own. To Mike, Eric, James, and others who gave me a game or two, thanks for your hospitality.

To anyone who plans to visit the Durham area anytime soon, don't miss The Green Room. Tell them Stu sent you.

Need to add that I showed an open mind and tried playing some one pocket, a game which I don't play in New York. I even managed to win a set against one of the top locals by a score of 3-2 and was very proud of myself.

Maybe watching all that one pocket at the Derby is starting to pay off.

Did you play the one hole on that extra tight table in the back with the extended sub-rails? Edit...nevermind, I played at the Green Room in Pineville, NC near Charlotte. Glad you had a good time.

I'm not sure, but I think I have been there years ago, if it's the same room I am thinking of. We ended up staying at a hotel on Pilot Mountain, one of the most beautiful scenes I've ever experienced during the autumn. It was heaven, but it was also dry county, as I recall, on Pilot Mountain.

There ain't nothing finer than a pool room in Carolina. Glad you had a good visit. I love playing pool down South.

Played it on a tightish table. One thing that hurt me was that I didn't know many of the techniques for getting balls that sat near my opponent's pocket out of harm's way while still controlling my cue ball.

It's good to hear that The Green Room has survived. I think Oscar's in Chapel Hill closed. I used to play at Jump Shots in Durham but I think they have closed as well. Jump Shots was quite the place, I had lots of fun in there. Now that I think of it I met Sarah Rousey there, she was gambling for pretty high stakes. Lots of fun the, barmaid was called Christy Boobs for all the right reasons!

Yeah, Jump Shot closed two years ago. I played there a few times. The Green Room is nicer and the people seem friendlier.
