BTG Table Diagramming Tool

You ask for it, you got it  Now when you click on an image, you will be taken to the editor to edit the layout and post your own changes. Note this will only work on new images, not the few previously posted.

Here is an example, click on the image to edit:

Let me know how it goes :)

Nice job stepping up to fill in the need for simple diagramming. Being html5 makes it very responsive. If you can come up with a simple way to draw lines we'd be like 90% there.

I have already started on this. Its a bit more involved than I first thought, but should be doable. ie. double click to start a line, then click to turn it, then double click to stop. Then how to edit, how to remove, etc.

I know this is kind of picky, but is there a way to better represent a striped ball? When looking at table layouts it's helpful to be able to quickly identify balls.

Doh! stripes are not rendering correctly. They were, something broke. Looking into it.

[edit] stripes balls are fixed! Thanks for catching that. I went back and fixed my posted images too.

This looks amazing, nice work! I bet if you call up Diamond they'd pay you to use their table look and logo in this as an advertisement.

I like how you made the balls float into position in the rack.

In absence of the wei table, I started working on an HTML5 pool table diagramming tool. It does not require any flash or java, just a recent browser. It automatically generates an image tag that you can copy and paste into the forum. This is BETA, so please give me feedback :)

Currently all you can do is place balls on the table. There are no lines or arrows yet. Click "Generate Image" and copy and paste the generated code into the forum.

[edit] updated, now you can click on the image to make further edits and post your own changes.

Here is an example:

And, here is the link to the tool itself:

I think you are awesome for doing this. Please keep up the good work.

Muchos Betteros!

Thanks, this is going to be a great tool. Any industry vendor would be a fool not to sponsor it!

Been thinking about this since I got my first iPhone in 2009!

There's already a couple apps that will allow you to 'correct' the perspective of static images, such as the writing on a conference room white board. Calibrating the color recognition might be complicated, given the multitude of ball types, colors, age, and cleanliness. I envision an app that requires you to 'calibrate' the session for each table, take 4 or more photos at the highest practical elevation, and the app stitches together the photos and overlays billiards balls where they lie. Calculating ball locations can probably be figured out based on diamonds and perspective of table rails.

Figure out how to do this and the community will be beating a path to your door.

I put together a (windows) app a few years ago that accomplished the task of image-> layout for a project I was working on. It ended up not being too bad, and detecting the table size was relatively easy (since you had the ball size).

I only supported the 'standard' ball colors and 3 felt colors at the time (interestingly, not the camel that my personal table is :) ). You are right that in older ball sets the colors of a few balls were difficult to detect (particularly 8, 4 and 7).

Calculating position was easier to do with straight relational measurements. The big challenge I found (and the important bit for me, and why I ended up giving up) was determining the space between two adjacent balls. I could get general position to within ~1/2", which while GOOD, wasn't good enough to tell frozen vs not frozen.

I'll have to see if I can dig the code up and play with it a bit more...

This is a great tool already. But that doesn't keep me from asking for more.

It would be nice to be able to zoom the image by 2x or so to make tricky situations clearer -- for example to see if balls fit or are frozen to cushions. I don't think we need the whole table to show up in that case -- just the interesting quarter.

The grid is OK, but diamonds on the rails would be nice.

Since it is all vector based, that is in the realm of possibilities!

I don't like to sound ungrateful....but could you get RKC to level the table?
I was running out on stripes and the @#$# 10-ball in the side rolled off.
...and will your logo in the middle of the table cause skids?

...actually, I love the table...you, sir, are a credit to AZ.:clapping:
