In a word, my answer is no. :embarrassed2:

If you are good enough to be sponsored by a company or backer that will pay your way to events, yes. If not, no.

How can it be? There's no insurance packages, retirement benefits, etc. Hell, there's no guarantee that you'll make any money from week-to-week, month-to-month. Expenses eat up most, if not all of your earnings. There's probably only a handful of pro players in America that make a living at pool whose earnings are based solely on being a "touring player".

Yes,

Even though you would most likely be broke most of the time, you would be "living the dream". It would be great to play that well, but not only do I not have the talent, I need insurance, so i have to work a job.

The only way i think it would be a good money living would be mixing in traveling lessons (to go with the travel from tourny to tourny)...

Don't Dream it, Be it...

And forget about having a traditional family, spouse, children, et cetera.

yes or no... why?

Actually, a good amateur can make more than the average pro. There are a lot more amateur tournaments to play in every weekend. A Pro might have one tournament a month.

All tournaments are top heavy. Usually, if you can't be in the top 3 in a tournament, you get dog bones for pay. This is one thing wrong with pool. It's always about the money. The winner always gets too big of percentage of the money.

It would be a great way to make a living if there were no entry fees, motel bills, free food and travel.:clapping:

I guess it depends on the quality of living you're looking for. Shane's quality of life is great. He sees the world and makes good money between tournaments and action. Granted, he's the best in the country. I know Dechaine also makes a good living. Both of these guys are attractive to sponsors. They are young, clean cut guys. They both get money from their cue sponsors, they both have backers for anything they could want to do, and both are very business smart and handle their money well. Just the other side of the coin.

Ditto.
And those that do make a living at playing pool don't have a split-level in the suburbs and a cabin in the woods. No country club membership. No Bass boat.

I think you'd need to experience it yourself to accurately crunch the numbers and also experience the 'intangibles' to say whether it's a decent living or not. I can't trust votes from people who aren't living the life...
