I agree with those who have suggested that on a ten footer, ten ball isn't broken and that this format is not necessary.
I also agree with those who suggest that the format will not greatly change who wins events, as the players with the best all-aroud skills will usually win.
This format means that you must fight for control of the table in nearly every rack, which does make it more interesting and it gets the players a little more involved, eliminating long stretches in which one player has no opportunities.
I wouldn't like to see this format become the norm, but it's a great format and I'd love to see some events use this format. I still see the use of a neutral racker as a far better solution to eliminating the problems that arise from the break.
As for Archer and Shaw, any match between them would be close no matter what format they chose.
