Shaw-Archer Mandatory Push-Out Accu-Stats Match-up

A lot of really well judged posts in this thread already.

I agree with those who have suggested that on a ten footer, ten ball isn't broken and that this format is not necessary.

I also agree with those who suggest that the format will not greatly change who wins events, as the players with the best all-aroud skills will usually win.

This format means that you must fight for control of the table in nearly every rack, which does make it more interesting and it gets the players a little more involved, eliminating long stretches in which one player has no opportunities.

I wouldn't like to see this format become the norm, but it's a great format and I'd love to see some events use this format. I still see the use of a neutral racker as a far better solution to eliminating the problems that arise from the break.

As for Archer and Shaw, any match between them would be close no matter what format they chose.

But due to lack of either money or effort, no pool tournament has enough staff to rack on all tables. I think that's harder to change than the break rules.

"2 Shot Push Out" uses close to 100% of the possible shots over a given time.

i cant break worth 2 cents, so yeah i love that rule,

SVB might not because he has the best break I have ever saw in 28 years, Period!! and that would slow his roll a lot.

With that in mind, i say we cancel the current rules and make push after the break the new standard.

I would just add the "Two Foul Rules" as well. Then you could play shorter races and you would see a MUCH better quality of pool.

I would say "One Foul" only uses about 30% of the Game, "2 Shot Push Out" uses close to 100% of the possible shots over a given time.

These statements can be proven, and with the right incentive I'd be glad to prove it on video. The incentive doesn't need to be money oriented, I just want to see the Game rise to it's potential, and am glad to help {the Game do that}. 'The Game is our Teacher'

But I thought 2 Shot Push Out would eliminate the "lucky" kickshots??

So it really only uses like 80% of the possible shots

"Kick shots", "Jump Shots", and "Masse' Shots" are in the same category

"Kick shots", "Jump Shots", and "Masse' Shots" are in the same Specialty category, they rarely come up in Two Shot Push Out, One Pocket, or Straight Pool (or any other game for that matter).

A lot of hard core pool players are unwilling to look at the game from another perspective, when in fact your demographic group is what will either make or keep the game where its at. Again thanks for your thoughts of what you saw from a NON PLAYER perspective.

Bill, that is the most intelligent comment I have seen so far regarding the direction pool has to take to be successful. Green rep to you, sir.

My wife and I really love the game as spectators. We have learned a whole lot over the last several years thanks to Accu-Stats matches, YouTube uploads, and quality live streaming. We aren't kidding ourselves about our abilities as players. We will always be "non-players" when it comes to actually playing the game the way is should be played, but we are quite content to be bangers who are trying to improve while enjoying the game by watching the very best in the world.

The notion that a C player can't know what's going on in a tough pro match is like saying that folks that don't box have no clue about the sport. Well, that would be about 99.999% of the viewing audience. The vast majority of the boxing viewership has never spent 3 minutes in the ring, yet they love and appreciate the sport and can certainly tell an amateur bout from top pros within the first minute of Round 1.

Pool is a unique sport. Just about anybody who is willing to put in the time and has some discipline can reach a very high level of performance. They can do just about anything any pro can do, but can't do it with any consistency.

Compare that with professional baseball. Name me one weekend warrior who can throw a hard slider to a specific part of the strike zone, or one that would have a chance of hitting one. Yet, the airwaves go out to millions of students of the game who can call the pitch, tell why it was missed, and make strategy calls as good or better than some of the managers out there.

Why?

Well, because baseball has a long history of educating folks like me, through TV broadcasts with expert commentary that is designed to bring new viewers into the fold, not to alienate them. They do commentary in a way that teaches neophytes the nuances of the game and doesn't make them feel like idiots while they learn.

Pool has a long way to go IMHO, but it has to start by catering to the demographic that you mention, and not to the 0.001% of diehard pool addicts that grace this wonderful website. Let's bring these new folks into an understanding and appreciation of the game. Maybe some of them will actually make their way into pool rooms throughout the country before they are all gone.

I'd MUCH rather see alternate breaks than the push out after break rules.

It's almost like APA rules in 8 ball where you take what fell on the break even if the other set is better to shoot at.

You are punished for doing something good (make a ball, have a shot, but can't shoot. Really??). Pool should not act like the government

No kick shots in one pocket?

You obviously haven't watched Corey play :p
