Press release on AZ homepage say it will be at the Marriott this year and all added money will be placed in escrow and entry fees as they come in I guess as a lot of players don't pay until close to tournament day. Full field entries comes to $128,000. Min. $50,000 added...max $72,000 depending on how many entries there are. Does it matter who hold the escrow? Sounds good on paper. Johnnyt

Yes it matters! I don't think this arrangement will change anything that has happen in the past. A law firm should be hired to manage the prize fund. Have all the players been payed from last year? Been there 12 years in a row and after last year it's going to take alot of convincing to ever go back. The players have been cheated and so have the fans after the way it was run last year.

Sounds like a step in the right direction, Im hoping the news keeps getting better and better for the Open.

Well the Billiard Congress of America accepted and supposedly held the entry fees last year. We heard all kinds of pre tourney hype from Team Behrman regarding all the fine sponsors etc. that were on board. At the end of the day some players and staff were stiffed/late payouts and allegations were made by staff that Barry was drinking more than he prob should during the event. As far as I know nothing recent has been released by team Berhman regarding final payments to all players, staff and suppliers. Having an accounting firm/law firm handling the funds seems prudent and required. Until I see a press release addressing last years final payments I want no part of this event and I would hope industry types/sponsors/touring pros would demand this be done publicly.

Fire up the grill and lets get some linguica and chourico going!

It's listed on the ABP Pro Tour Calendar as a points event that Charlie Williams just shared today on Facebook so I'm guessing they will all be there. I know my family & I will be there as we are every year. If any of y'all come, let me know & we can have a AZB meetup there; would be nice to meet the people I've talked to on here

Didn't the ABP have a problem last year and threaten a boycott of this event last year? Wonder what happened to change that stance? Those ABP points are good for what exactly? Thanks for the warning, I know if any friends or family of mine attend I will reccomend they prop a chair under the door lock of their hotel room door, lol.

I think the threatened boycott was the year before last but I might be wrong, they all tend to run together after so many years but I know they were there. I know the points are used for their rankings but I'm not sure what else they're used for though. So far Rodney's the only one who has said he won't be there.

Roberta, I really value your contributions to this site and I admire your devotion to the US Open 9 ball. You appear to be a huge supporter of the Behrman's and quite frankly at this point in time everything they say and do regarding this event and its finances needs to be viewed with a great deal of skepticism. Are you personal friends of the Behrman's? How would you feel if you were a player/staffer/vendor of this event who had been stiffed/late payed by the Behrmans? The financial irregularities/broken promises by Tem Behrman & Son have occurred so often, how can anyone believe anything they promise? Yes this has been a great event in the past. At this time a huge stench hovers over Team Behrman. Charlie Williams? Are you kidding me? The guy is out solely for himself and his own best interests. I disregard anything that comes from his camp.

If I'm not mistaken, the year of the proposed boycott was 2011. The issue was "solved" by the BCA holding entry fee monies and added $$ placed in escrow. I believe all parties ended up being paid timely. Then, of course, last year Barry thought he had it figured out and everything blew up on him.

If entry fees aren't held and added monies aren't in escrow, count me out.

Roberta, can you tell me who wrote this?

"I've written checks in felt tip before & there was never any problem. I know I'm one of Barry's biggest defenders although I do know the things he's done, I really hope there's some other explanation...."

or this

"I have always been & always will continue to be a friend of Barry Berhman. I'm not saying he's done no wrong because he has; he fully realizes that & takes full responsibility for it. It's just my opinion but I really don't feel that anyone has the right to judge or complain about the way he does business unless it DIRECTLY affects them, which would the players & others involved in the tournament; not that that's going to stop anyone from doing it I know.

I'm sure I'll catch plenty of flack for stating this as I already have in the short time I've been posting here, which doesn't bother me in the least. I will continue to respectfully agree to disagree with people who have opinions different than mine because everyone is entitled to think whatever they want.

I have no doubt that there will be a US Open 9 Ball Championship next October, he will find a way."

or this one

"This is in no way comparable to rape or any other violent crime, you're comparing apples to oranges. Unless you're one of the people that's owed money then it doesn't affect you & is frankly not your business. You want to judge Barry for what he's done so I'm sure you must be perfect & have never done anything wrong. It's not stopping the players from coming nor is it stopping the fans (of which I'm one) from coming. All I did was state what I thought, if you don't agree that's fine."

Roberta, your objectivity on this matter leaves quite a bit to be desired. At a certain point an individual goes from being a defender to an apologist. Roberta, sadly you have crossed that line.

It would not surprise me if they had 200+ players this year.

The US Open is one of the only, if not the only, pool tournament where the prestige of winning the title means more than the money.

"I'm there every year too & spend my money to support it, I have been for years along with my family & friends. These problems go back for years & have been publicized for years as well but it still isn't stopping the players or the fans from coming. You have every right to your opinion just as I do to mine so I will respectfully agree to disagree."

I respect that as a consumer you are willing to back your opinion with dollars. I also understand why you hope others will agree with you and do the same.

However, on the flip side I have already booked my ROOM  and as soon as VIP goes on sale ... I will be purchase two week long tickets (most years my wife can't make it and the second badge goes to waste :frown: )... also on the flip side I have no interest in convincing anyone to do anything...

Jay Helfert said he will have absolutly nothing to do with this years US OPEN!

That speaks volumes!

Thats all i would need to know if i was a player thinking about going!

I'm aware of what I have said on here & yes I am friends with the Behrmans, I have been since I was 17. You are certainly entitled to your opinion just as I am entitled to mine. I don't know why you feel the need to quote my past posts & question my intentions. As long as people feel the need to attack Barry I will continue to speak out for him.

As I have said numerous times, everyone is entitled to what they think about Barry. I know people have been late being paid previous years & have made no excuses for that. But, I'm not going to stay quiet when one of my friends is being attacked.

Roberta, your intentions I do not question. Your objectivity however is something that is highly questionable.
