Unlike 9 ball where you... no wait... it's exactly like 9-ball.1) you don't have to call anything
ex. you shoot to try to make the 6 ball, you miss the six but the cue ball caroms and hits in the 7.
Because drunk idiots will never try to claim that you really called a different pocket.2) Not only do you have to call the 8 ball, you have to literally mark your pocket with some sort of object.......I have no idea how to describe how f*ing stupid this idea is.
Any handicapped system will give people the opportunity to game the system. Of the couple I know of, APA's is definitely the easiest to mess with and has the biggest "reward" (i.e., free trip to Vegas) for doing it.3) The handicapping system in place promotes sandbagging

Ive got more that are better i just cant remember them now. Ill post more when i think of them
Hi guys, I'm still fairly new to AZB and I've seen numerous times how people bash APA rules, say they suck etc. I'm not from the US&A and I can't experience the APA myself so I'd just like to hear why those rules are hated so much.
The rules aren't hated, the APA in general is. Some players just like to look down their nose at it because it makes them feel better about themselves.
You asked a serious question I will give you a serious answer.
The rule I dont like is no push out after the break in 9 ball. You are handicaped if you are high ranked player and breaking as you might hook yourself. This is especially true on freaking bar box.
In 8 ball, if I remember right, is if you make a stripe then you are stripes, I think it should be open after the break if you make a ball.
I hate league PLAYERS more than I hate APA. They are the nitiest bunch of folks I have ever seen.
Why?
They ***** about handicaps continiously instead of practicing, matching up, gambling, playing tournaments to try to get better.
They look at minor rule infractions as a way to win, instead of trying to beat their opponents.
Finally the APA sells this crap about going to Vegas. What they should be selling IMO, go out and have fun with your friends.

I actually agree with this a lot of this (and it should be pretty clear that I'm a league player.) However, I see very similar behaviors on this forum from the non-league player. How long did the "poll to settle a bet" run? People going back and forth about what constitutes a "break out"? I've seen gamblers complain about giving spots or asking about fair spots... how is a spot not a handicap?
So... pots and kettles I guess.

This^
So many people have this opinion about the APA, myself included. Rarely do any of the players do anything but complain that they are handicapped too high, or, in most cases, their opponent is handicapped too low.
All the while not making any attempt whatsoever to try to improve their game.

Handicapping is stupid IMHO but I hope you're not trying to say no.1 and 2 are bad rules. Calling normal shots and not calling the black makes the game next to pointless.
Nothing wrong with handicapping, the issue is people cheat to work the system to make it easier to win. Without a handicap system in leagues and tournaments, the turnout for them will be cut by 80%. Only the top few tiers would ever play.
You have the rules reversed there, you have to call the 8 ball but not the others, the standard 8 ball rules is that you have to call every shot. Most people want every game, including 9 ball to have called shots.
No I did get the rules but I'm saying that calling any shot except the 8 destroys the game. I would hate to play like that.
