Where did that other thread go? Nobody ever provided my cliff notes for this whole bonus ball saga.

I am not the mod who deleted this thread but we had been advised that a thread on this subject exposed us to slander and liable charges.

Free speech is not free. You may say anything you like as long as you do not mind being held legally responsible for what you say. Courts across this country differ in their opinions on the responsibilities of web hosts in this regard, but it is now clear that even if the host is innocent he can be dragged into court and forced to incur enormous legal fees to extricate himself.

When anyone wishes to post that someone else is involved with criminal activity they need to post their absolute proof as well. Otherwise we will remove those charges from our pages.

Innocent until PROVEN guilty is the way it works.

This is very true. In recent times, there have been more and more legal cases brought forth based on Internet-related crimes.

Slander would not affect AzBilliards, as this has to be oral.

Libel, however, does pertain to the Internet in that it is considered written defammation. AzBilliards, technically, though I doubt it would hold up in court, could be charged as a conspirator for allowing libel accusations that cause defammation on the forum.

Internet publishing is easy and has become commonplace in our
technology-focused society. Although this type of publication can be
exciting and helpful for those interested in communicating an idea, the
issue of anonymous speech on the Internet has created some
complications in the rather established tort of defamation.

Everyone's a Critic: Defamation and Anonymity on the Internet.

Defamation and Your Rights.

If I do not know something is factual, I consider it hearsay and will state it as such.

In the end, even when you're right, you can still lose if you don't have enough money for competent legal counsel and/or have the ability to incur legal fees that could get as high as six figures. In the legal arena, whoever has the most bucks wins via good lawyers. Sad but true! :frown:

Which is not intended to replace the advice of qualified counsel!mwahaha.
I work daily in a position which defends my employer against alleged wrongs and let me say:
We win way mor than we lose, but it is always expensive.friggin hassle, I agree with Azb's low tolerance for potentially litigious situations.

I support the moderators here. The single post I made in the deleted thread took note of how deplorable the public infighting among those with a vested interest in bonus ball was and that the arguments found in the thread needed to be settled in private, not on the AZB forum.
