i have several wave cases and am VERY happy with them as far as bang for the buck protection for the cues and quality construction etc
recently i became aware of jb basic rugged case
seyberts sells them at a price close to what a wave case would cost (the 4x8 im interesyed in is actually alittle cheaper)
if you buy them from jb you get a few more customizable features but also a $75 dollar shipping fee
so for dollar for dollar im comparing the seyberts model to the wave

those of you that have /had a sterling wave case and now have a jb basic rugged

how do they compare???

whats your opinion??

thanks for your replies

Sorry bbb, I do not use nor have I ever seen the JB Rugged case in person. My observation from the Seybert's website pictures is that the Rugged case appears to have bigger pockets, both top and bottom. This is one of my complaints with the Wave case (I have three of them), the pockets are not deep enough. The ad says the interior is "padded" on the Rugged case, but is it the same Ultra Pad interior that comes in the Wave Case??? If not, then I would give the Wave case the thumbs-up as far as cue protection goes. I do like the simple looks of the Rugged case and I'd be willing to bet that it, like the Wave case, is probably a good bang-for-the-buck.

Sorry I couldn't help more.

Get the JB Basic Rugged case.

I just received my 2x3 from Seyberts and love it.

The size is incredible. It's really small and lightweight for a 2x3, which is what I really wanted. You easily fit two cues and a jump cue in there - though getting them out requires a little bit of finesse.

The only downside is the black interior. It's impossible to look inside and get the cues in. And it's especially tough since it's such a small and tight case. However, after a while you just get the hang of it.

(if JB reads this - black interior is a silly choice)

You are having the same problem that I have with my 2 x 3 Wave case. The dividers do not come far enough up towards the top of the lip, so when you're trying to get that last shaft in, it's extremely hard to locate the hole (and....it's dark down there). I tried putting the shaft in last. Sometimes that works, sometimes not so good. May I assume then that the JB Rugged case has the same Ultra Pad interior as does the Wave case?

The JB Rugged is by far the best "bang for the buck" case I've EVER owned.
I have the 4 x 8 and I paid $145.00 with shipping. I had a knockout 3 x 6 Whitten but I always feared it would walk away if I didn't keep my eyes on it at all times. The Rugged case doesn't draw that kind of attention from the bad guys.
No need for me to shop for another case.

Dan, can you tell me if the JB Rugged case you have has the same interior as the Sterling Wave case does, that being the Ultra Pad interior??? If it does, then that case is most definitely the best bang for the buck!!!

Totally agree with this ^^.

I haven't owned a Wave case, but I did have one of the black vinyl Sterlings with the velcro straps etc. The Sterling had the Organic Rebound interior, the JB Rugged 3x4 I just got has the UltraPad interior. Both were black, so I'm already used to stuffing the butts and shafts in there. Both interiors are excellent, snug and secure. I don't really know which I prefer, the're both awesome.

The Rugged has big pockets and is extremely compact and lightweight, but has a very solid feel. People can't believe it's a 3x4 until I open it. I also like the exterior material, which has a woven feel and is more like burlap than the smooth vinyl Sterling that would nick much more easily.

The JB Rugged is probably the last bigger case I'll own. Maybe a nice 1x2 in the future, and I'll still consider the simple Rugged over more expensive and fancy leather cases.

BTW the 3x4 was I think 120 or so shipped from Chady Liu.

Funny, I often had the same fears when I owned one so much so that it never left my house! :D

The JB rugged cases and the Wave cases are nearly identical. The main differences are pocket shape and exterior styling. Same construction, same interior, same handle.

The rugged suits me much better than the Wave. Nothing fancy about the rugged, it's all business. That said, I think they are both nice cases.

As others have said, they both use the ultra pad interior.

IMHO, the wave case is hideous. I'll take the clean lines of the basic rugged (I own a 2x5) any day of the week.

Most of the readily available ones are black/black. But if you want to wait and pay the custom up charge, a colored interior is one of the many options.

I would really like to see one of the distributors get the JB Rugged in something other than black. I am tired of black cue cases, too damn boring...

It's like a woman, sometimes you have to practice to find the right spot. :-)

We are considering very strongly to eliminate black as an interior color as I just got back from SBE and noticed that many people were not able to find the holes easily on the black interiors.

They have I think 13 colors.

I really like what you are doing. I agree with everything in that video, your approach, your mindset and goals. I have owned all of the top cases out there. Yours are the best. A case is suppose to protect a cue, first and foremost. Bringing world-best cue protection to an affordable price point is yet another great thing you are doing.

JB, you will go down as the most important case maker of all time.

Maybe a blue color to mask blue chalk marks/stains on the interior? Sorta like table blue. just spitballing here.

You make great equipment jb.

Yes we already do blue in two shades as an option and the lighter one is great at covering up the chalk.

I think that maybe blue will be the default color unless for some reason it's really out of place or the customer requests otherwise.

Just yesterday I got a new sample card for fabric colors and there are some 20-30 colors we can get. In fact one of my customers is due to get a pink interior.....
