That's a beauty! I have a similar table in my garage in about 80-90% of that condition, with tighter pockets and new rubber. It can be had for a paltry sum.

Ken,
you can be assured that if Jay and I do this it will be on a real table and after the run we will get the pocket profile(all the different degrees and size of front and back of the pocket), its very easy with no cloth to be sure the slate has or hasnt been doctored.
Any funny biz, no payday & Speaking for myself as I havent spoke to Jay yet, if anyone gets caught using a gaff table they are banned from other attempts for life. That should keep the players on the square, it wouldnt be worth it. Hell they are so close now IMO who works the hardest wins. So the risk of a lifetime ban dont make sense, too much to lose. Thats how i'd handle that.
also Jay and I need to get together and figure out exactly what needs to be done to protect the integrity of the new record, who gets paid what, how much $$$ we really need for everything(like checking the table after the fact) making sure the video isnt doctored some way some how(i have people for that).
there is lots of moving parts here, i expect we will need a month to figure it all out, when we do Jay can make a press release-he writes much better than I do, and has way more juice.
he wouldn't put his name on a gaff, nor will I.

Eric -
You only got 1/2 of my point.
You are a car guy too, so I will explain it this way.
It needs to be a factory Corvette. Not a Chip Foose Corvette. While I like hot rods, to help the sport it needs to be factory original.
We need a factory original GC or Diamond table.
Hope this sounds okay. No disrespect intended to anyone, but I really think it is important that this be a new (not an old anniversary), an out of the box new table.
Hope this clear.
Ken
... If they want to clean the balls, thats cool the ball cleaner can be next to the table, ...
About the fatigue thing -- could a player take a 30 minute break after say every 200 balls?
What kinds of rest (?) periods would be allowed?
Ken,
were 100% cool and on the same page, i just was lazy and didn't address everything in my reply, for 2 reasons. First I was lazy and 2nd i need to talk to Jay.
I agree 1000000% with what your saying it needs to be a factory spec non modified box. with good balls
And like jay just said "good video"-Jay i'll talk to you later about this, i know people in that biz that can pick up a "splice" or digital edit or what ever the new word of the day is. It must be continuous, if the player takes a 30 minute break/rest, the camera runs THE WHOLE TIME.
Jay and I have lots to talk about to make this a professional long standing offer, it may take a year, maybe a month.
I believe its fair to say Jay would agree wth me, we want to create a real unquestionable attempt to break the record with a 100% legit run of 527 or more,so there will be NO DOUBT OF THE AUTHICENTITY OF THE NEW RECORD, thats my thinking and i'm sure everyone else wants the same, If they want to clean the balls, thats cool the ball cleaner can be next to the table, so that will be visable as well, these details we can work out, i can reach out to some of the players, between Jay and I we can get to ALL of the contenders, and approach them with a real offer.
One other idea, Barry Hearn got lots of Matchroom records in this years Guiness Book of World Records, now that means Barry has juice with the World Record people, guess what Jay knows Barry very well so in all likelihood the record will go into Guniess Book of World records. this is why Jay and I need some lead time, to look into this stuff-i'm not sure if Jay even thought of this, I promis everyone Jay has thought of things I havent, and we are both open to all suggestions.
Lets not worry about $$$ just yet. Lets get the rules down and deal put together. then yes we should do a raise and credit anyone who adds $100 or more to the pot, Just thinking out loud. I have no incentive to make $$ here, I'm doing this cause i love pool, since I cant run 12 balls, I can be a part of history anther way, helping organize this plan.
Let me get with Jay and he will update things as they are formulated. I think were on to something cool, pool needs it, we want it, some player deserves a good solid payday. I'm not pulling for any one player, heck i'd love to see the record broken and 6 months later a new record. that was 2 guys can get paid. thats another detail Jay and I need to discuss.
Jay has been my friend for many years and we work well together, we had one beef one time and I will never feel right about it, It was 1000% my fault. Jay accepted my apology. I'm still embarrassed for what i said, Jay didnt have to ever accept it, but he did and I'm eternally grateful and still feel like shit and am embarrassed. it as over nothing, I was out of line and wrong.
You can be sure it will be a legit, fun event, we dont know when its gonna happen, thats kinda cool too.
so let Jay and I go to work on this and the suggestion box is open, the last thing thats going to happen is Jay and I get tricked out of any $$$ or we let down pool fans by finding out the table was gaffed, or if the player took Steroids to break the record(for the record i'm the, well was the steroid user). no funny biz, it will be real. worst case is they cant break the record. i dont see that happening
Mark Griffen talked about the insurance policy for the record it can be had for less than 10%, we just did a $7,777,777.77 fantasy sports event and it was closer to 3%. Still a pile of $$$. I dont think its necessary to do that for this, i believe a grass roots effort within the pool community wil get the job done, and when we get on main stream media that Mosconi's record was broken, a few people might just go play pool that woudnt have otherwise. how nice would that be. its a positive thing the whole way around, if it becomes a pissing contest or finger pointing and infighting in the pool world, i'm out and will be disappointed. We owe it to ourselves to make this happen and all be friends.and Crown the new Mosconi. Barry Hearn might have to re-name the Mosconi Cup hahahaha, how abut that???
jay email me when you have time.

Yeah I would probably throw in a couple of hundred too as a donation. Perhaps somebody could set up a fund where we could all kick in through PayPal with no expectation of recompense unless its over $XX,XXX.00
Personally, if this type of option were available I would want to see the "donations" awarded to some worthy cause if the record is not broken in some specified period of time -- say five - ten years.
Clean the balls, fine, but wax or polish them, no. Here is the WPA requirement:
"Balls should be unpolished, and should also not be waxed. Balls should be cleaned with a towel or cloth free of dirt and dust, and may also be washed with soap and water. Balls contaminated with any slippery substance - treated with a polishing or rubbing compound and/or waxed - must be cleansed and dewaxed with a clean cloth moistened with diluted alcohol before play."
I like this but how to enforce it?
I guess you'd just make it (no polishing or waxing) one of the conditions you list when you formally announce the "rules" of the event, like foul on all balls. Enforcement is easy at high-run events, but otherwise it would just be by self-policing (and, perhaps, subsequent attestation).
Maybe this post yesterday from Danny answers your question:

If the ball that was hit softly towards the pocket it would go if it got in the jaws - due to the slate being sanded where the ball rolls down-hill and actually accelerated. Plus the facings of the pocket were very soft, it was simply the softest table I had ever seen and I am not sure that a ball would even hang up in the pocket as a result of the sanded slate. I think a table like this should be illegal in Jay Helfert and Fatboys challenge offer. Did he use any jump cue's I know he likes to fall back on that as a cushion even if it's been agreed upon to be illegal. After looking over the table in Virginia I would be interested in inspecting the table where he ran his other high runs. It's not my intention to take anything away from Schmidt and his natural ability to play great pool however I realize now that some people are better at promoting themselves than others and sometimes unless we really look into the details we can be mislead. I am totally against any table where the slate has been sanded near the pocket to make the pocket accept balls like an industrial strength vaccum. Unfortunately not everyone wants a level playing field."
Unbelievable...first Harriman lies about his run IF ITS ON VIDEO HOW CAN YOU CLAIM 379??) Putting Max Eberle in a weird position as he posted it thinking if Harriman actually did it, and Max being a gentleman congratulates him for "The Highest Run on Video". Then Harriman asks for the post to be taken down because he knows he didn't actually break Schmidt's 366 on video .. then he has the balls to question one of the TABLES of either the 400 or 403 that John made. Way to go from defense to offense..Why are 99 out of 100 posts that Harriman writes include Schmidt's name? Post after post, year after year. That isn't his perceived "rivalry" or simple jealousy/sour grapes, that's obsession and its getting to the level of disturbing.
If you play any amount of straight pool, and can run a few racks, you know it is very easy to screw up the count.
Danny made an honest mistake.

I was wondering if this was the biggest "prime number" run in history, for 379 is, indeed, a prime number. Even if a higher run is videotaped, this will likely remain the "highest prime numbered run" on videotape.
Hell of a run, Danny!
For example, Willie's run of 523 was also a prime number. (Nice going, Danny!).

It was his highest run ever - on tape or off - and he's a professional and knows the game is measured on the count..did you screw up your count on your highest run? And he taped it as well so it makes the count MUCH easier...REVIEW THE TAPE. How do you know it was an honest mistake? Were you there? He wasn't off by one ball, HE WAS OFF BY 2 FULL RACKS. I never heard of anyone "screwing up" the count by 28 balls. And it wasn't a match so there were no fouls to MAYBE be off by one ball. I actually have run racks and know how to count...especially during my best run EVER. That's one hell of an "honest mistake". And on top of it he went public about it and it made an honest and respected pro post a congratulation thread on a false claim. I think he wanted to beat Schmidt's record so bad that maybe he added a couple of racks in excitement, probably shouldn't have done that.
Its a MAJOR screw up and if it wasn't on DVD for him to post/sell and people to be able to count it themselves..whose to say he would have corrected himself, calls his credibility into question bigtime. No 14.1 player in the world, amateur or pro is ever off by 28 balls.
You're quite obviously, Harrimans sock puppet..and a very bad time to be one.
