Look azzhole, he didn't have the money to pay someone else, he WAS contacted by other mechanic's offering to work on his table....BUT COULDN'T AFFORD IT....CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW!!!!! So I agreed to do the job if rebuilding his rails at a very...VERY....VERY low price in order to try and help him out...GOT THAT?...My timing didn't work out because of the backlog of work I had waiting for me at the Diamond factory....so, SORRY IT DIDN'T all go as PLANNED!!! And guess what azzhole, I still don't have the time...in fact, I'm not even at the factory right now where his rails are....HAVE YOU READ THAT IN MY POSTS YET...I'M IN SOUTH DAKOTA!!! So, after talking with Tony on the phone about his rails and money, he decided he just wanted his money back and the rails....so, no problem, I already sent his money back to him...he has it in HAND, the rails will ship back next week....I'M DONE!!! I DON'T OWE HIM SENDING THE RAILS TO SOMEONE ELSE AND I PAY THEM TO REBUILD HIS RAILS!!!!!...GOT THAT?? And if anyone wants to ASK me anymore questions about this matter....LET IT BE TONY!!!....as YOU have NOTHING to do with this subject!!...GOT THAT???

Glen

Ever here of a telephone.

It works like this.

You dial a number.

When the other party answers you say "Hello Tony this is Glen"
"Just wanted to let you know that I have been real busy lately, but i will get to your rails as soon as possible".

And you know what.

I bet Tony would have said "OK".

Put this in your rollodex for future customers. It may save both parties some aggrivation.

Thank god for your sake you aren't actually employed by Diamond. If they ever caught wind of this thread I don't care how good you are, you'd be fired in a heartbeat.

You don't know what Diamond knows or what they would do. And what business is it of yours anyway? Why even make this comment?

And frankly - the way this thread started and some of the continuous ankle biting he is dealing with from the peanut gallery certainly makes his responses quite understandable.

And there isn't one single person here who is justified in telling RKC how to conduct his business. It is his business - not yours.

This is all pretty simple - if one does not want to deal with RKC then don't do it. There - problem solved.

Correct but to take it a step further.

Its not the that the spec is met its that it was never created in the first place.

To play well and function most tables require minimal precision. Now, most of us can tell when rails aren't straight, one pocket is bigger, someone tightened the rail cloth too tight in the middle of the rail, Simonis is wavy, etc.

Think of it as good, better, best.

Basic installation, Quality installation, Precision Hand Fitted to Exacting Mathematical Consistencies.

Most people can tell a basic installation from a quality one. Few can tell between a good install and one mathematically square and exact.

The problem with the people that work on pool tables in this industry is that most all of them are self-taught, or learned from someone else that was self-taught. There's no schools, books or anything written that are even remotely close to being right, so...where does a table mechanic learn to become a table mechanic? Through trial and error is where 99.9% of them learn, the difference is the table mechanic that sits back and looks at the job he did, and asks himself...could I have done that better, and if he answers yes, then he looks to improve on this or that, and after every job he does, he always asks himself that same question...until one day he finally runs out of answers, and that's where I come in, to talk him to another level that he never knew existed, and that is only through demonstration, the learning process still falls upon him to absorb in what he was just shown, or it'll go right over his head. If the latter happens, I'll show him again, and explain what I did in 3 or 4 different ways in the hopes that one of the ways will click and he then understands, but it's still up to him to use his new found skills...and there lies the problem. It's like speaking a new language, if you don't keep remembering what the words are and what they mean, sooner or later you may start to forget the meanings.

So, there's a lot that I look for in a table mechanic before I'll agree to teaching someone a new level of working on pool tables. And trust me when I say you can't turn to the manufactures for this kind of teaching either, as they deal mostly in new tables, which don't have the same problems that older tables have from everyone already working on them in the past. And sometimes even the table manufactures have it wrong right from the start, you can believe that too;)

As Mark Gregory would say, it's the job of a real table mechanic to fix, repair, modify, replace or redesign what the last table mechanic did, or the factory who built the table, but it's not our job to build the table in the first place!

Really?...for what? There is nothing in this thread about Diamond is there? Other than the fact that I took Tony's rails back to the factory to work on them. Diamond's work came first, which is why I didn't have the time to work on Tony's rails...so, WHY would Diamond fire me?....Please tell me?

You won't see me disagreeing with anything written here. God knows I've broken down tables and been shocked at how or why someone did what they did. There's a lot of bad mechanics out there, if you can even call them mechanics.

I may not like how you've acted in this thread but I don't question your skill set or knowledge.

If you were employed by Diamond you'd be acting as their representation. I did say if. I don't think any company would want one of their employees going online insulting their potential customers or yelling at people in the community. It bad press and if...if...you were employed by them it would be a bad reflection on them.

Its like that with any business. Whether we agree with it or not people are fired all the time for blowing up online.

This is a public forum with thousands of active members. Once something comes out here it's everyone's business, like it or not. That is the nature of a forum.

PMs were designed for the otherwise but they don't work well with only one participant.

On this point I'd have to totally agree with Glen. To say that Diamond would have fired Glen for doing a job where he WASN'T representing Diamond... It's like an electrician who works on the side on weekends. As long as the company that he works for doesn't have a written policy about working on the side, they're not going to get rid of anyone unless they are acting in the name of the company!!!

I know that Glen is connected to Diamond... Hell... WE ALL DO!!! But I don't think about Diamond when I'm reading or conversing with RKC here on AZB. Glen is one of the best table mechanics in the country. He works on Diamonds... he works on Gold Crowns... and yes... he even works on Gandys!!! I'm sure he has even seen his share of Saunier-Wilhelm tables and about everything worth owning in between.

As for what happened in the deal that started this thread... I'll keep my comments to myself (whatever they may be). But I will close on this... If I don't have time to wait on a Rembrandt then I'll just have to setting for a Piccaso and take my chances.

No it's not. It's a curiosity. The only business here is between the OP and RKC. For everyone else it is rubbernecking at the scene of an accident.

I DON'T OWE HIM SENDING THE RAILS TO SOMEONE ELSE AND I PAY THEM TO REBUILD HIS RAILS!!!!!...GOT THAT??

Yes Glen you do owe him that. And you should have the strings to pull and markers to call in to get help from one of those many mechanics you have trained and helped out and love you so much to cost you very little other than shipping. That would be making things right. Forcing him into a corner to feel a refund is his only recourse is not right.

Naaa, more like an accident in the fog on the freeway, cars just keep crashing nose first into the azzend of the one in front of them until it backs up clear ot of the fogbank so that other drivers can see what's ahead and steer clear of the pile up:rotflmao1:

This is quite common in many business. I once took on a job that was more than I could chew. When it got too tight I called on one of my better competitors to help me finish the job. What started out as profitable turned into an expense but the job got done and the customer was happy. It happens.

They do this a lot in the hotel world too. When one books up rather than turn customers away they set them up at sister locations for half the price. Its keeps the customer rather than turns them away.

Thank you Idaho, have a nice rest of the day:joyful:

So are you going to answer my question or just duck? This thread is about how you treated a customer poorly, and your reaction to it has out the exclamation point on your ability to take care of your clientele.

I DON'T owe you anything let alone an answer to any question you ask, who in the hell do you think you are to even ask me that?...you're not even a possible future customer...ducks don't have a damn thing to do with this:rolleyes:

Q:. Why are you sending the rails AND the money back to the OP?

A: because you picked them up in FEBRUARY and told him he's have them in MARCH

Q: why are you butthurt that he/ we have called you out?
