I have entered the U.S. Open One Pocket in Vegas and am seriously considering playing in the Main Event of the World Series of Poker the week before. They are both played at the Rio Hotel which is kind of cool.
The reason I talk about this now is that my plan is to take half of myself in the Main Event for $5,000 and sell the other half in 5% and 10% shares. Each 5% share is $500 and it is a full share with no 'juice' for me. I will only be playing for my 50%. I have already got commitments for seven shares, so I only need to sell three more ($1,500 total) and I'm in.
There should be over 6,000 players and probably about 650+ will finish in the money. I figure my chances of making the money are about 3-1. I like playing with a deep stack and we start with 30,000 in chips. If you make the money, you have doubled your buy-in to at least $20,000. So everyone would double their investment at a minimum. The upside is HUGE, with eight million plus on top. 5% of eight mil is $400,000!
I will pay all my own expenses to go there, but if I happen to make a bigger score, like $50,000 or more, everyone will be liable for their own taxes on winnings. It is no problem for the Rio to issue separate checks to everyone. They do that frequently at the WSOP because so many players are staked.
