Newbies can say what they want

I didn't want to hijack a different thread, so I thought I'd start a new one. I've seen JAM and others comment on newbies to the forum in effect that they shouldn't say certain things being so new. So here we go....

I think a person should be who they are from day 1. The only way for forum members to get to know them, is to be who they are. We were all newbies at one point or another. Why penalize these newbies because they just recently found the site, found the game of pool, or found equipment to finally become a member?

I just think it's wrong that newbies are expected to just ride along and not give their opinions until they've been on here for 6 months, 200 posts, or whatever.

Let WHAT they say validate who they are and what they believe in, rather than how many times they've said it. If they are trolls and haters, the red reps, abuse and banning will follow shortly.

I do know it's hard to tell if they are a new member, or creating a new account just to strike at someone or something. Wish there was a better way to manage that stuff.

Just my opinion. What does everyone else think?

yup, none of this elitist crap. The moment you have an account you should be able to post.

Credibility on the other hand has a little to do with post count. It's a double edge sword that allows you to gain and lose credibility at the click of a button.

JAM is on a downward slide right now.

Yep, that's exactly what I was trying to say, but you used better words.

AGREED...I have zero credibility and I've posted more than a few times :p

Everyone can make up their own minds on someone else....restrictions are dumb

Yeah its annoying when certain people feel they have the jurisdiction to belittle someone because they don't post frequently and/or make a thread they personally don't agree with. Sure there are probably people with multiple accounts that have a motive or agenda, it usually becomes pretty clear.

I agree, it takes more self control not to say something you really want to than to say what you think needs to be said. JAM for the most part has been offering nothing but trouble to the forums lately and should keep it to herself if its not pool related. It doesn't make her a bad person at all just seems to be bothering the hell out of most people.

Says the guy with barely over 200 posts. :p

I only started playing about 8 1/2 years ago and joined AZB about a year into that. Most of what I learned and how I've progressed could be tracked from my posts on here. I've considered one day going through them and charting the path of progress that I made, but just thinking about it sounds like a lot of work. :embarrassed2:

True, unless you have eleventy eleven million jigabytes of billiard pictures on your computer.

And look at you Mr. Banks. 8 1/2 years and a member in good standing with the D Bag Club. Gonna have to nominate you for Prez soon.

Some members are a bit shy, just like they might be in real life and it takes a while for them to join into a conversation. It doesn't make what they have to add, any less valuable.

Funny that the Forum Policia often chastise others for chasing people off the boards but they can't correlate what they say and how they treat new members as being one and the same.

Its like on the job experience. How is a person going to get any if someone doesn't allow them to try. Same with posting. If someone is going to suss you because you don't have a huge post count, when is a good time to allow them to join in.

Can you provide a link to the thread that you are referring too?

As for saying what you want....if the Mods are good with it, then it's ok. There are rules on the forums.
People giving their opinions is what makes this forum great. As for JAM, she obviously can type ver, very fast (I"m jealous) so she posts more than most of us. Lately there has been a changing of the guard, if you will, on the forum. There seems to be some clashes amongst posters and many disagreements. JAM does not pull too many punches and can post quick. Some posters don't like it, but she does stay within the rules, so........no big deal.
Keep on posting......WOOHOO!!!

Newbies may be new to AZB but not to pool. I joined after 35+ years of playing pool when a buddy told me about a great website with a bunch of pool nuts like me.

Nothing at all wrong with newbies, if AZB contributors are growing it is good, running members off is bad.

It is a great site, and, unfortunately there are some folks that think that a gazillion posts gives them some sort of ownership. Especially when their posts fall into one of a half dozen different categories and they just keep hammering the same old crap over and over.

Many of the "oldies" are truly classic and I will click on a post if I see their name, others, not so much.

All in all, it is a fun place to spend a few minutes and catch up. I have learned a lot and have grown to enjoy a lot of the personalities here.

Here's to newbies, and, here's to the continued growth and success of AZB!

Couldn't be more correct

"Quiet" folks have a lot to contribute and we should do everything possible to encourage them.

If you do that, I'm going to have you be my VP.. then I'll resign, in true d-baggery.

I'm not entirely sure if I agree. Her tendency to go into a whirlwind of critism and self-pity is one thing, but she intentionally ignores and skips anything that calls attention to her using logic in sharp contract to a previous position. The last time I called her on it, before the Pinegar's Avatar thread, she gave me a green rep. I'm typically a pretty patient person, but I don't do well when I know I'm being jerked around.. certainly not by somebody that has a history of going off over little things. Some kind of new species, a troll hybrid if you will.

Don't feel like the Lone Ranger Banks. I have already been branded a Troll.

A Hybrid D Bag Troll. I rather like it.

"Out of the mouths of baby's". Can anyone here direct me to the next Smorg? Only way we will find out is reading newbies comments.

AZ is a private forum by ownership and a free for use forum by its members. None of us regardless of when we joined has any more or less rights than someone who joined yesterday or ten years ago. Any comments by new members should be treated with equal respect as to an older member and age, sex, ethnicity, or anything else should not matter either..

This was the link that inspired me to start this spread where JAM commented on new members posting crap.

http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=324773

There were a few others, but didn't want to search the forum. I believe it was in some of the BB threads, and too many to try to search for.

I mentioned JAM in the original post, but wasn't meant as an invite to bash her. I've seen others do it as well, so it was more of a general discussion on rights of the new members. And how many people felt it wasn't new members, just new aliases.

Newbies

I really don't care who is new and who is not,
It was a very valid point, I wasn't going to put my 2 cents worth on the other thread because this person Alvin is at least doing something.
Where most of us are not doing anything to correct the problem.
My hat is off to Alvin for his love of the game and doing his best...............................

There is no reason to cover up this problem.
The newbie really was right, it was really boring ...

To even drag the subject off track to say your new and don't have the right to say anything
is a little extreme. What is next age, race, sex.
