AZB Pool Tournament at BCAPL in Vegas!

Ken,

I am only suggesting things - I will support whatever you guys decide.

BUT - with everything going on, I am not so sure that double elimination is the way to go.

You might end up having to keep people in the room for too long, and they might start wandering and you might have delays in the future matches etc.

Why not go single elimination. You can make the races longer.
But require some kind o ftime limit.

On the race to 3 suggested, you are going to have some 45 minute matches. That can cause long time delays.
This is more important to be a get together - not a serious tournament.

16 man event - single elimination is 4 rounds - using 8 tables the first round.
16 man event - double elimination is 7 rounds - using 8 tables the first 2 rounds.

Just my thoughts.

I appreciate everyone's input! I am open to about anything.

I chose this format since I know how long it takes to do it. I run this exact format every Wednesday at Jamaica Joe's. We start play no later than 7:30 and with 16 players we are normally done in about 4 hours.

Here is a link to a tournament that started at 7:11 and ended at 12:20. I remembered it since I played the maximum number of matches possible, ran the tournament, and I play slower than our average player. This tournament also had 20 players which is significant due to having to wait for the play ins from the pig tails. This is a worse case scenario for time.

So worst case scenario is 5 hours. Start at 1 and we're done by 6.

I will yield to any way you want to have it done Mark. Just say the word and it is done! :)

Ken

p.s. I need shorter races to hang with Lyn and Randy! :o

I won a trip to Nationals this past weekend. Will be arriving on the 23rd so doubt I will be able to play in this. Oh well. Maybe I can sweat some and hit some balls later that night with some of you world beaters.

Mark, let me know your preference as we get closer. I can change this quite easily at any point before first rack is broken!

nine_ball6970, congratulations on the win! Come on down and meet us. I am sure some will hang around after being knocked out to talk about the finer points of TOI or CTE or the state of the pool industry today, etc etc :D

Thanks Ken. I was thinking it would be more along the lines of discussing bad rolls, people gambling, and/or drinking contests!

This software is really easy to remove someone at the last minute (day) if necessary. So if we have folks in the finals of the singles tournaments (I hope we do...like me :P ) then we will adjust the sign ups accordingly.

Look forward to it!

Ken

NO...NO...NO...

I have dibs on the Finals already. Everybody is supposed to lay down during my matches, so I can steam roll into the Finals :grin-square:

If I'm in the Finals, I would just skip this funsy tourney...otherwise, I will see all you guys there, with beer in hand..

Yah, what he said! Please, please let me give my money away. I just want to meet the names behind the wits.

I'll stop by to spectate and socialize. Hope to meet all of you guys. I hope everyone has a good time. Will there be someone in charge of making name tags?

We are getting closer! We stand at 19 players so far. Should be a lot of fun!

It started here (http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=310988) but I thought the title needed to be more informative to catch more folks attention.

Tuesday 7/23 at or around 1pm we will be gathering for a tournament comprised of AZB'ers.

No entry has been discussed. I see no reason to make it more than 5-10 dollars.

The game also has not been specified. I would like to see 10 ball played with Texas Express 9 ball rules with the addition of the money ball pocketed at the foot of the table not counting for a win on the break.

To sign up go to http://challonge.com/ and create an account and then go to http://challonge.com/tournaments/signup/KGRdzwHJbb to sign up. I used my Facebook account to log in to this site. Works fairly easily.

If you have any questions feel free to post them here and we will get this thing rolling!

Ken

Only about 3 weeks away! Looking forward to this!

Just added some dead money to the field. Looking forward to the drinking afterwards.
