Is there a video for this demo shot?

Bob Jewett mentioned in several threads before that he can demo the spin induced throw effect by doing this demo shot.

Is there any video clips for this demo on the web?

{sorry, didn't have the correct image link the first time}

I don't know of any on-line demo. I think if you try the shot at various distances between the CB and OB the usefulness of spin-induced throw will be fairly clear. If the balls are close enough together, you can get both balls to move to the left of the line through their centers.

Thanks, Bob. May I ask some more tips in executing the shot?

Should I elevate the cue a little? Will some draw help? Should I use a jabbing
stroke or a firm but constrained follow-through?

I've seen something similar happen by accident in the past when I'm trying to hit hard with heavy inside spin, on a very full hit.
On paper it doesn't look very possible and I have a hard time doing it on purpose.
I wouldn't believe it if I hadn't done it.

Center right. If the cue ball is close to the object ball, you have to use a short stroke if you are shooting more or less straight towards the object ball. You probably don't need extreme right.

Creedo the shot you mention causes me to scratch often if I try to pop the cue ball with High inside. Its weird that the cue ball does this on a firm stroke. To prevent this I have to stroke it very smoothly with speed to follow 2-3 rails out of the corner.

That's nothing. What's TRUELY mind blowing and difficult to accept, is that on 4-1/8" pockets I've tried at times to cut a ball slightly to the left with inside english (expecting the CB to hit the rail to the right, the end rail) only to have it either scratch or hit the long rail.

Perhaps I was more elevated (over a ball slightly?) and masséd the ball unintentionally... but with a nearly level cue, at minimum. Weirdness.

As far as those two balls straight in etc... you can cut a ball past an impeding ball to a surprising degree if you're cutting it to in the direction opposite the impeder. Even people who know about it are surprised how much it is when the balls are dirty. Experiment. Our minds compensate for a ton of sheit... and smart players learn how they can hit the balls harder than soft IMHO.

Here's a short video of this shot. The 8-ball runs into the 3-ball, so it clearly moves to the left. The CB also moves to the left, and actually touches the rail.

Nice video. With some sets of balls, it is hard to do the the shot when the cue ball is that far from the object ball. It looks like you could have hit the 3 a lot fuller and still moved the CB to the left.

Yes, I agree. Although these balls just came out of the Diamond ball polisher, there is still enough throw to make it happen. I would imagine that this particular shot would be even easier with relatively dirtier balls.
