I was simply pointing out that this thread had gone quiet for over 40 hours and then you, whom I don't believe had any direct involvement in this transaction with either the op or Glen, felt the need to stir the pot again.
I know, I know, you want to make this a sticky.
Glen may well have acted wrong in this transaction; I'll address that shortly.
But to start, in no particular order, here's a few things I know about Glen, and how things generally work in the world.
The op was ***NEVER*** in danger of not getting his rails and/or money back from Glen.
Glen is a p-r-I-c-k-l-y pear.
Glen has a total of zero filters.
I often find myself wishing I could get deep discounts on highly specialized service work but then I usually just end of paying what I'm supposed to and get great results. And sometimes I am so bowled over by how incredible the work that was performed was done, I feel compelled to paypal an additional tip to the service provider to show my appreciation.
Glen is one of the busiest people I know and is typically being pulled in far too many directions.
I waited two years then Glen came to my house and did my table. It took him 7 days and there is a long and detailed description of that rebuild on another az thread. I didn't know how perfect a GC1 could be until that visit.
Glen should have either completed the op's rails or told him he just can't get them done and got them back to him much sooner. Just my guess but I don't think Glen was holding the rails hostage, I suspect he was looking for the time to be able to complete the job. Pure speculation on my part.
I had a plumbing disaster in my kitchen that unfreakingbelievably found its way down to my rec room where it destroyed one wall, lots of ceiling panels, and yes, soaked my beautiful GC.
I called Glen for his advice on what to do and his response was, "I'm in Virginia right now but I got you; I'll come up there Tuesday". And he did. For those who don't know, I'm in CT. There's another thread detailing that visit.
Glen, if you're reading this and you haven't done so already, get the op his rails back so the haters can move on to something else.
A few posts ago Bishop said he has received *dozens of stories" by pm from other members who are afraid to tell their stories here detailing their negative experiences with Glen.
Hey Bishop; I'm calling bullshit on that one. No you haven't.
And, again, what exactly do you claim are the reasons these "dozens" are choosing to remain quiet about it? They're afraid of being criticized on the internet?
This is a pool forum man, not some intraverted wallflower meet-and-greet.
I certainly do not have all of the facts but from what I've read here, Glen definitely messed up.
A guy needed work done for real cheap, Glen tried to do him a favor and took the job, then never found the time to complete the work.
Just for the heck of it, anyone who thinks Glen was not simply trying to do a favor for the op, do the math on this job. Taking a set of rails with him and rebuilding them to absolute perfection (that's what he does) and getting them back to the customer all for $250. How much profit do you supposed was in it for him? I know, he took the job and it's the principal, I agree. Just making the point that this was, indeed, a favor Glen was attempting to do.
He is unfiltered, brusk, opinionated, and has a big ego.
But he's no ripoff. Of that I am certain.
