Just Got my first GF&*$ yourself on a private message on AZ

As far as I'm concerned, the listed price is always open to a lower offer. Ridiculous or not, that's your offer. If the person politiely says "no" maybe I'll make a better offer, if I think it's worth it. If the person is a jack@$$, I definitely won't. It all just depends on how badly you want to sell something.

By offering less than half the asking price and making it sound like you're doing the guy a favor makes you sound like a complete douche bag.

You not have gotten a gfys from me(but that doesn't mean you didn't deserve it), heck you probably wouldn't have gotten a response.

This is true. I've had some crazy low offers and ended up selling the cue to the same guy for more than a fair price.

It makes little sense to go off on people. You might be screwing yourself out of future business.

Don't really think it's a big deal. Some people give a simple "no" some give a "gfys"...Personally, if I am that far off on a cue I won't make an offer... I don't buy to resell either, just for use. I sell lots of things outside of this forum, and never given someone a response like that though. To each their own.

When I get a ridiculous lowball offer, I feel like it's not worth the time to mess with it. So I won't negotiate. I do respond with a "no thanks" though, and delete the pm's so they don't clog my system with crap.

I am surprised that you just delete the PM.

Don't worry "GFYS" comes easy to some people, Just brush it off and continue :smile-us-down:

A couple of points and observations.

1. Many ads don't have enough validation of the true value, and many buyers don't know true value either. The OP didn't offer $200 for an ivory Southwest.
2. There are newer cue makers (I won't mention names), that start building cues and put ridiculous values to them. ie, this is a $2500 cue and I am a master cue maker, but I'm selling it for $900. But the guy who bought it repeats the $2500 cue value from the cue maker and wants to sell it for $2k.
3. The true value of anything is what it most recently sold for. My step son bought a Jimi Hendrix album on eBay for $15 and tried to explain to me that it was worth $150. He didn't comprehend when I told him it was worth $15 because that's what he paid for it. If he resells it for $150, THEN it's worth $150. Guess what, it's still in his room.

There are TONS of cue makers out there nowadays. I'm sure most have huge egos and believe they are making the best cues. But until you have a reputation (ie SW, Searing, Gina, etc) it's worth the materials put in and a nominal expectation of time invested in the cue. That does not count time waiting for it to cure, etc.

I agree BB. The ad says he was motivated and make an offer. If you won't take less than X, state that to start with to avoid any low ball offers.

And many times a low ball offer is made in order to start negotiations. So a counter offer is much better than a response that was given here.

Yeah, the least he could of replied with was "GFYS, I'll take 325."

I just bought a Jerry Franklin SW for $1600. I sent a offer because he said he was motivated to buy it and give it to my 11 year old niece. The cue is not north more then $300. I sent a offer for him to say $300 and would have said ok and had it delivered to her. There is a 1 of 6 schon that John spitz has on here for $850 and several p2's one of the best hitting cues ever around $300. If I needed $ and was motivated I would put a price on a cue. I have bought 15 items on here and was just surprised with the response other then the thieves out to rob you or take your change. Most everyone else is very cool.

Did the guy ask 3200 for the southwest?
Are the P2s 600?
Is John Spitz asking 1700 for his cue?

If you offer someone half of what they're asking, when their price is already reasonable, you're a jerk. Plain and simple.

He could have said no, I bet if you offered him 300, he would have very politely said no.

If someone gives me a low ball offer I just usually do not reply, if it is not far off then we can go from there and make a deal usually.

part of the problem is sellers dont always post prices. When they say"motivated seller - send offer", they open themselves up for this. The seller deserved to receive that offer. Don't like it? post a price.

Thank you. As someone relatively new to cue buying, I hate to see "make an offer," because I might like the cue, but have no idea what a fair offer would be without feeling like an insult to the seller.

"$x, or best offer" is a much better option.

I can't agree with this at all. Offering a lower price doesn't make you a jerk.

I don't care how reasonable you think something is the cue is worth what the highest offer will be or the lowest the seller is willing to part with it.

From day to day we never know what the market will bring.

I've listed cues I thought should go for 700 at 600 dollars. Sounds reasonable, yes. But in the end I've parted with them for 300 because that was the best offer I received.

That didn't make the buyer a jerk. Prudent maybe, stingy at worse.

In life we have choices. You can choose to not accept the offer and I think 99% of the offers sent aren't designed to offend anyone but root out the best possible price they can do business at. You can also choose to not be offended by someone looking for a great deal.

I'm going to list my last 5 great deals I've made as a seller and buyer. No one was called a jerk either.

Exactly! Many people going on the WFS section are not collectors, and wouldn't know if their offer were insulting or not?

Which did you sell on this list?

I have mentioned this before and I still think it is the way to go.

I fill out a lot of forms on the computer and I think it should be a form that MUST be filled out.

A description space could still be provided. I see a lot of screwed up ads and I admit I have left out something and thought I was an idiot for not including it as EVERYONE would need to know the answer before making an offer.

Example:

Brand/Maker: Szamboti
DOM: Unknown
Shaft 1 13mm 4.0 oz Moori S
Shaft 2 12.78 4.02 oz Champion
Butt 15.02 oz
Finish Original
Price: 8700
