Mine got better. It really was the bandwidth being too high, I found out.
I did a speed test on my internet and found out my usual high speed cable had dropped down to
2 Mb/s. Typical speed for comcast is more like 20 Mb/s, so my speed was reduced 90% for some reason.
That's still enough to surf and stream video, and I didn't notice the problem right away.
Anyway, I rebooted my modem and router (surprising how many problems that will fix) and
on my next test the speed was around 8 Mb/s. This was enough to get 0 hitches for the rest of the tar stream.
I have no idea why it dropped down to 2, and why it's currently only at 8.
Possibly recent storms in the area, locally there were internet outages all over the place.
If your connection speed is in the 10-20 range, you should not get hitches,
unless you have other stuff using your internet connection (netflix, streaming to TV, games, torrents, whatever).
