Just got a Gold Crown 3 but I've never set up a table before. Could really use some help. I plan to put Simonis 860 on it FYI.

Location and pictures of the table will be helpful, is this a DIY project? Or are you looking for Mechanic recommendation?
Find a good mechanic to set it up for you, it will be money well spent.
I have a guy willing to do that but coming up with that much extra is tough. I was gonna do the work myself. As I understand it though him charging $350 is a good deal. Is this true?
That price is cheap, even if you are buying the cloth. Have you checked this mechanic's qualifications to be sure you're getting quality work for that price? Where are you located? Maybe we can make a recommendation for a quality mechanic near you.
I have seen his work. He does a great job. I've played on some of his work. I'm located in New York. 45 minutes east of Rochester. I am buying the Simonis myself. Also, anyone able to get the Brunswick decals and perhaps the Simonis decals?
Ok, then yeah, that's a good price. I think I have some of the Simonis stickers, but no Brunswick.

He has Gold and Silver versions. I used the Gold on a GC2 shown here: http://forums.azbilliards.com/album.php?albumid=1481&pictureid=10312 an I think they look great! I would pay some one to set your table up properly, especially if you are using Simonis!! You will probably pay close to $300 for the cloth retail, nothing is worse than a bad $300 cloth job! No offense of course, but, stretching cloth is nothing like felt! Even if you just pay someone once just to learn, there are so many little steps that you will NOT know and will regret... All of the things the other guys and I have mentioned will save you headaches. A wise man told me once: "Do not be so cheap that you screw yourself...." If I can do it as good in a fair amount of time I will learn, if I have to learn an entire skilled trade in an afternoon I call someone w/ that skillset. Just my 2 cents! Good Luck!

Ah yes I do remember that website with those stickers. Good call. Josh you have the Simonis ones? How much are they plus I also see you sell Hustlin merch. We should talk because I am in need of more stuff. Hehehe. Oh and thankfully I can get my Simonis Cloth for $200 but I agree that I don't want to do a bad job.
I actually just saw your P.S. Trent. I never asked to learn your whole trade. I just was looking for pointers and advice. No need for the what seems like a nasty comment. I could be mistaken though. Thanks for all the advice so far. I do believe I'll have that mechanic do the work. I'll just assist and try to learn some things along the way.

Right on the money.
If a person were to come up with a critical path like when building a home so you don't do steps out of sequence then all the information you will need is archived here with the exception of maybe cloth installation. For that a $30 investment in the Simonis DVD's would do the trick. With good basic mechanical skills and patience I think it's reasonable to DIY and have an outcome the very first time better than more than half the tables out there. It's all here in bits and pieces if you look.

Ultimately though really all that statement proves is people jump to conclusions and/or take past experiences out on others. I'm willing to accept the second part because yeah I can imagine it would feel like an insult if people ask to learn your trade just by asking and not actually doing the work. That being said, I most assuredly wasn't asking that. I just wanted advice and pointers.

Not a big deal. What is the price on the sticker? I'm about to order some cloth and I feel there should be a sticker included for advertisement. Then again it's not going to be at a pool hall. I'm still torn as to which I should get for my table. The 860, 860HR or 760 all are good to have.
I had a problem using the Simonis DVD. They tell you how much slack to leave for the side pockets, something like 13/16" on the glue down side and 11/16" on the stretch side, do not quote me on that, I don't remember exact numbers the DVD supplied but I watched the DVD at least 4 times and took notes. It also said a little less for antique tables but as I recall it did not say how much, I did not give it much thought because I did not think my GCII was an antique table. As it turns out I should have used the "a little less" figure because my felt is a little loose in the side pocket area. You can not see it but you can feel the felt move in the side pocket area sometimes if you slide your bridge hand there. Oh well, another lesson learned, if I can find someone in my area to recover the bed I will have that done, but that was the whole reason I did it myself, I could not find anyone in my area that I really trusted to do it right.
